Heard from several reliable sources that a name with a lot of initial support is Buzz Williams at Marquette. Would be a strong hire for Jethro Jacobs.

Flame away.

Why would he leave Marquette for Auburn?

He's from the south.

Marquette has expectations he struggles to meet.

He was begging for the Arkansas job the last time it was open, fwiw.

Would be a terrible hire for the conference and Auburn.

Not sure the reasoning but he is from Texas and might want to leave the frozen tundra.

It's obvious Auburn will never be a basketball recruiting powerhouse so it would make sense to bring in someone with the JUCO ties like Williams has.

How high are Marquette's expectations? He has been to the NCAA tournament five years in a row, including making to the sweet 16 twice and elite 8 once

I think the expectations he may be referring to are connected to Marquette's Jesuit affiliation.

I don't believe Buzz is famous for bringing in choir boys.

With that said, everyone that is hung up on the Under Armour issue would see an appreciable jump in talent under Williams.

They expect to be a tournament team (something they will not be this year), yes, his teams have had favorable matchups and have advanced in the tournament, but during the season his team's have steadily declined and struggled more and more each year to make it to the tourney.

Plus he plays a style that tries to limit possessions and keep the score in the 40s which is exactly what the SEC doesn't need to change the perception of the league.

Why Auburn thinks football should be fast and basketball be slow is beyond me.

He would be a perfect fit for Auburn. For people asking why he would take the job, money would be one reason. Auburn paid Barbee 1.5 million per year.

Basketball powerhouses like Duke and North Carolina are never going to hire him because they aren't going to settle for a coach who has built his success through jucos and transfers

Marquette pays Buzzkillington more than that, supposedly, above $2mil was the number being said.

I think the point is we paid an unproven entity 1.5 million.

If he can get us in the NIT every year, and the NCAA tourney every 5, I'm game.
