I'm moving to Hattiesburg in a few weeks, so I need some native Mississippians to tell me what I'm in for.

How is the nightlife?
How are the people?
How is the crime rate?
Is it a diverse city?
What's it comparable to? (My completely baseless opinion says Troy, AL)

Is it all USM fans or an eclectic mixture?

TIA

In my limited experience, those frickers can party with the best of them.

Hattiesburg is way cooler than Troy.

It's not a bad city. It reminds me of Tuscaloosa pre-2005. I can't answer about the nightlife because I've only ever driven through. The people are friendly and really seem to love SoMiss.

Don't go there. It's where herpes and AIDS run rampant the most in this nation.

Good. Ropers is a fun place if you like the honky tonk type bar. There are other good bars by the college area.

Nice people for the most part. I hate USM fans, but they do have a lot of hot, slutty women there.

Pretty average I think.

Besides white and black, not really.

Mixture. Small college in a pretty large town.

The folks in Troy, Alabama consider Ruby Tuesday "fine dining." The folks in Hattiesburg do not.

Troy is awful. I was shocked at how small it really is

I'm not sure I've been to a more depressing/boring college town.

Half shell is fine dining bruh

Nah I lived in Troy as an early teen and went back every now and then to party. Fun town if you know the right people.

Last time I was there I went to a Nappy Roots "concert" at sigma chi, had a grand ol time.

The Burg is in no way comparable to Troy. Has more nightlife than State for sure. Certain areas suck, most of the whiteys have flown the coop for Oak Grove, but it's diverse if you consider black and white diverse. Southern is the home team, but there's a good mix of Ole Miss, State, and LSU folks. Seriously though, no offense to Troy, but H'Burg is a bonafide college city, not small town.

imo it's the best town in MS for a young adult. I really wish State was there instead of Starkville. USM isn't much to write home about, but the city probably has more culture than any other in the state

I don't have a dog in this fight, but Oxford farts out writers on a daily basis.

I dated a girl that was from there and spent some time there in the late 90's. My impression is USM was the school in Mississippi that the cool kids went to. The douchebags went to Ole Miss, the rednecks went to State, and the cool kids went to USM. I always enjoyed visiting there, but not sure I'd want to live there.

It is nothing like Troy.
