Looking that way. I'm on record saying I think the issue runs much deeper than the HC, but it's looking like he's gone.

My fear is we're having the same conversation 4 years from now. No decent coach is gonna want to take on our problems. (AAU, UA, lack of interest, etc.)

You're just set up to fail.

I think the next coach if he shows progress buys a lot of time. We have no expectations now. Barbee came with high expectations and just never improved year to year and he had attrition problems

If fricking Wichita State and Gonzaga and Butler can forge winning programs, then by God Auburn can too. We have enough talent in Alabama, Georgia, and Florida to put together consistent NIT/NCAA teams. Somebody break out the fricking checkbook and make this shite happen!

Is it so hard for us to have average baseball and basketball teams? I mean, make a run deep in the playoffs once every five years.

When UA only has 19 of the 300 odd schools who are eligble for the tournament, and of those 19 only about 5 have made the tournament in 5-10 years before signing wtih UA, then you realize how stupid that argument is.

The Nike v UA all has to do with recruiting. Wichita, Gonzaga and Butler did not build their teams by elite recruiting. They built it by elite coaching and Tubervillesque finding the right pieces where others find nothing

Also, I have already shown how this Nike vs UA debate is dumb as shite in another thread. It is a difference, but very minor.

I don't think we should Kiffin his arse but there's no way he can stay

With that being said, when do we fire up the ol' "Fire Jay Jacobs" threads again. I just don't feel like he's the long term solution either

Baylor is one and don't forget they had one of the worst NCAA scandals in history and are now a perennial tourney team so I agree that the Nike/UA argument can be overblown. Hell, we just got beat by an UA school

*Baylor is actually Adidas but the awfulness of their uniforms always made me assume they were UA

I just added to my last post but if you look through the 19ish teams that were signed with UA this current season, the only schools that stand a reasonable shot of making the tourny in a normal year are

Temple
Maryland
St Johns
Boston College

Temple

quote:

Can't find out when Temple signed but it was at least before 2010 according to an old al.com article. Temple has made the NCAA tournament every year they h ave been signed with Under Armour

Maryland

quote:

You do realize that in the 4 years pre Under Armour, Maryland had only 1 NCAA appearance and 3 NIT appearances

In the first two years with UA, they made the second round of the tournament. If you think after losing their greatest coach in history they are going to keep steamrolling you are absurd. So they have an immediate program boost then lose a coach and didn't replace him well

St Johns

quote:

Made the NCAA tournament & NIT only once for both in the 10 years before signing with Under Armour. Basketball school but not a great one in the past two decades. Made NIT first year with UA. They likely make the tournament this year

Also, Utah went through a bad coach that was there during the Nike->UA phase but their new coach has improved every season and has them back in line to make the NCAA tournament this year

That's not saying much, considering they had a worse year than us.
