Mississippi State AD throws support behind Ray, despite struggles

quote:

A number that’s also on Ray’s side is attendance, even with fans failing to exceed 7,000 in the final three games.

Humphrey Coliseum housed 123,743 fans in 18 games this season. That’s third-highest all-time. It’s more than 2006-07 when the Bulldogs went 21-14 and played 19 games at the Hump.

MSU averaged 7,370 fans during SEC play. That’s higher than last season and the 36-year season average at the arena.

I don't know where the frick they got those numbers from but Jesus Christ.

ETA: The attendance numbers had nothing to do with Striklin. The C/L added that little tid bit to the end.

Yeah -- despite us sucking and people not showing up and giving their money to Aramark who I think holds the lump sum concession contract for us -- they are still maintaining their season tickets.

I did this last year and will do it again this year -- but when the official numbers are released for the fiscal year -- it shows what income and expense basketball had to the AD. There was minimal dropoff from Stans' last year to Ray's first despite fewer people actually showing up. I'm betting this is the case again this year...

If Ray does not progress next season Stricklin is going to have to make a big hire to get people back on board.

Absolutely. I didn't really want this to become a Ray or not to Ray thread but about the attendance.

I just don't see how there is any way attendance could rank that high in our history when every game you turned on there was literally no one there.

Well I am guessing they are just counting season tickets bought and not actual butts in the seat.

Yep. Conveniently coinciding with a major new income stream for the conference as well.

For that reason, I think you see major turnover in SEC basketball next year with some totally stupid bidding wars over big name and flavor the week midmajor guys...

I am going to buy season tickets for next year. I will decide how many later, but it will be the first time I have purchased season basketball tickets since 2006 or so.
