DirecTV pays around 1 billion annually for exclusive distribution rights of its NFL Sunday Ticket product.

Let's make this simple: in order to profit from the 1 billion annual investment DirecTV needs subscribers to 1) subscribe to DirecTV services and 2) buy its NFL Sunday Ticket product. Pretty easy.

Knowing this, how many NFL Sunday Ticket customers will cancel DirecTV if DirecTV doesn't pick up the new SEC Network? Is it safe to assume that the person canceling his/her carriers service, because the carrier doesn't offer the SECN, is an avid sports fan? I say yes. Is it safe to assume that the customer who pays for NFL Sunday Ticket is an avid sports fan? Again, I say yes. Is it safe to assume that many of these customers are one in the same? It's plausible.

The difference: NFL Sunday Ticket is exclusive content to DirecTV customers. SEC programming is still available on CBS, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU

I am a Sunday Ticket subscriber. I will stay with DirecTV and Sunday Ticket whether they get SECN or not.

Sunday Ticket

Best bait in the world to lure in the unsuspecting customer only to find out the incredibly shitty customer service and quality of TV.

I don't have it but know a lot of people chose directv over dish because of NFL Sunday ticket. Quality of tv? Games not in hd?

Depending on your location and if it's overcast, you may not see anything. That's why I left. Way too many outages for the price you pay

I had Direct and dropped them for Dish so I could get CST, for LSU baseball. Didn't need Sunday package, Saints are already on TV, though.

That seems pretty standard. How many people really need it to watch their favorite team? Most live in the market and can get it on the local CBS/FOX station. With Red Zone, how many actually need it to follow all of the games each Sunday?

SEC Network is currently exclusive to Dish and U-Verse.

NFL programming is still available on Fox, CBS, NBC, ESPN, and NFL Network.

This, and DirecTV has more HD channels and the top customer support in comparison to awful Dish.

There's a reason DirecTV has 21+ million subscribers while Dish has 14. Superior product.

Just switched from Dish to DirecTV (due to price) and they're fairly comparable.

Personally, if it weren't for the kids I'd be cutting the cord.

BTW, when I made the disconnect call to Dish, they told me they are considering a total ala carte option - letting subscribers pick only the channels they want.

Needless to say I voiced my wholehearted favor. I could live with the locals and about 20 channels. Or frick the locals and go OTA for them.

It would be nice to know exactly how much we're paying for the privilege of the four letter networks.

Not really, Genie shits on the Hopper and DirecTV customer service is top notch and wins the award for it every year.

And for me it isn't just NFL Sunday Ticket, it's the Golf and Tennis Experiences only DirecTV offers for free.

I couldn't imagine watching a Golf or Tennis major now without the DirecTV Experience.

All games are HD and directv has the best signal and programming available, second place isn't even close. But after the initial hook it is the most expensive and their customer service is shite, but I hear the same complaints about customer service re all carriers. Having said that I'd go with whoever has SECN, but I'm a diehard sec fan and college fan over the nfl. However directv would be fools uh to care. Time and again it's been proven the NFL is king. So much so it's beyond going a regular season game between the Lions and Rams if both were 2-10 would outdraw by miles a SECCG or BCS title game head to head. It wouldn't even be close. I remember after I think a hurricane LSU played UT in a top matchup on Monday might against a crappy nfl game, the nfl games ratings were so much stronger than our game it was a national joke. That hasn't changed.

DTV's customer service is the best but not the regular customer service; you have to call and ask for customer retention; they are the only ones that will get shite done. As for LSU fans dropping a much superior network to watch college baseball, well, I wouldn't expect anything less.

call retention, say you want to cancel, "hey, how about I give you free Sunday ticket and a blow job if you stay?"

You serious bro?

Hard drive:
Hopper > Genie

Skip commercials:
Hopper can, Genie can't

One has the best remote streaming technology (Sling), one doesn't.

One allows you to move your recordings to your mobile devices for offline use, one doesn't.

One continues to win the "Best of CES (Consumer Electronic Show), one doesn't,

i had DirecTv for many years, liked it too. its great to have for golf at major time and the big tennis tourneys. and honestly, its better than charter cable, directv doesnt freeze up near as often as charter does. but, i've got both internet and cable tv for the price of just directv. i hope directv gets their act together and carries the sec network. one bad thing about directv, it doesnt bother them one bit to screw up the bill, or even send it to the wrong address. i literally had to threaten to drop them before they fixed, 'their mistake'.

p.s. when you call customer service. always demand to speak with an american. they have to transfer you. but hey, i do this with any company. just found that dealing with an american is way better.
