He got us put on probation.
Glad he made it. He is a good coach.

Well this isn't Auburn football, unless he committed a felony, i don't care.. My god, he got us a #1 seed.

Glad you aren't our AD. Any coach that gets a team put on probation doesn't deserve a job at that University.

And who here wouldn't take Bruce Pearl in a heartbeat? Don't know the specifics of what Ellis did but we have been on a self imposed probation ever since.

Not to be argumentative, just miss being more than a one sport school, and i'm pretty sure Shug Jordan got AU put on probation also and was retained.

If you get put on probation in basketball, you did something pretty serious. Basketball is the shadiest recruiting scene in all college sports and they almost never hand out probations. I wish we had Cliff Ellis' production but he had to go

it wasnt all about the probation. I dont think they had even ruled at the time. It was also about how complacent he had become. Although nothing became of it, Lebo stepped in and did much more off the court stuff than ellis had done in his previous several years. it was almost like a tuberville situation

remind me why we fired him?
At the time it didn't seem like a bad move. In hindsight, they weren't able to get anyone better to accept the job and had to settle.

CC is the 4th program cliff has taken to the NCAAT... clemson, auburn, USA are the others. say what you want, but the man worked minor miracles at auburn and didn't get the credit he deserved (i include myself in that as well).

I'd take him back in a hearbeat...I don't care what he did. I'll take Cliff Ellis at 70 over Tony Barbee currently.

As I recall it was just a tiny, small probation. Let's bring him back (if we don't get BP.)

The interim president Richarson, fired the best basketball coach and one of the best baseball coaches because they had one bad season. Almost killed Auburn athletics.

I'm okay with cheating in basketball.

if you ain`t cheating, you ain`t trying

I agree, but I've heard he was really close to fricking us across the board. I was fairly young when we were in good in 1999-2000 but I remember watching us play in the tournament in 2003. Damnit I long for the day we make it back.
