Looks like we have a real life lost situation

I despise flying.
Hope by some miracle, they're ok.

Sad, but I'm not going to make a big deal about it in terms of flying is dangerous. In between now and the next time this happens, thousands of people will die in car crashes.

Gawd, I hope they find them safe and sound even though it doesn't look so great. There's so much military buildup in the region I wonder what happened - someone surely picked it up or at least a clue about it.

That's so true, and logically, I believe it, but boarding a plane, all I can think about is there are no fender benders in a plane crash.

Not to get religious or anything, but accepting this fact was one of the biggest reasons for me to stop believing that "everything happens for a reason" or "God's plan" thing. Things just happen. When we built cars, they were unsafe. Lots of people died. As we built safer cars, less people died. It's just the nature of our existence. We are constantly improving on an imperfect situation. We do the best we can, but it's never fool proof. Doing your best to be aware and contribute to the safety of yourself and others is all you can do.

I flew to Asia on a 777 and back on a 747 3 months ago. I feel for those people.

Here's their flightpath. Really hoping someone out there picked them up on radar and give searchers clues:
Would be a great time for NSA to covertly slip some info/tips that could help since we know damn well they watch/record every inch of earth.

In my aviation geek world, there's only three things I can think of that would cause a 777 to disappear out of thin air without any clue.
1. Bomb
2. Structural Failure
3. Weather
The first two are scary as shite. The third is really unlikely, but is what it is.

And I feel like if it was the first two, we would know about it

Terrorism, we'd probably know. Structural failure is a lot more difficult to figure out.
If it's that, it's pretty crazy. 777 is a proven aircraft with plenty of flight hours behind it, but it would take a lot of time to figure out if it was a structural problem. Planes very rarely just fall out of the sky.

That plane is in an ocean right now. Prays to the passengers. Terrible fate.

What time, CST, did it go missing?

Lost contact at 2:40 AM Malaysian time. I'll edit with a local time.
ETA: Assuming calculations are correct, it would have disappeared at about noon CT.

Those are the most likely by far but I wouldn't rule out interference from military equipment (electromagnetic interference can mess up plane equipment). That whole area is being monitored tightly right now by not only the West but also Russia and China. There's no telling what's being used. Plus, China's smog is so bad right now it could interfere with things -- smog has reflective particulates (even some metals) that can throw off sensitive equipment including lasers.
China also recently reinforced the sudden annexation of island near them and extended their air and sea space. No one has heeded them and yesterday they issued a statement naming the US by name and warning us to heed their newly established BS sovereign boundaries -- this was just after they talked to Putin.

Thanks.
Missing app. eight hours doesn't sound good.
