Are y'all ok with basketball being the sacrificial lamb so we can be great in football and baseball?

It's ok with me I can live with it. Don't care for basketball much anyways. Bring on the orange bowl and the diamond dawgs

Rick Ray may not make it to the end of the season.

Stricklin is in a tough spot seeing as this hire drew criticism from the start. It's what he paid Ray that made it even more questionable.

Will be interesting seeing how this plays out. Now Scott is going to have to really pay to dig out of this mess. I fear it may be a while before we are competitive and have fan support.

I am a Rick Ray supporter. As a Rick Stansbury hater I would love to blame this on Stans but it's just not there. We all know it's hard to turn around a program on the rock bottom, we all know Ray got handed a shite sandwich of which he took the bites and liked it. Ray still has my backing because he's a strong passionate coach who makes his players accountable and that's what we needed. BUT, the facts are this is year three and this is not where we should be as a program. I would not be remiss at all with Stricklin for bagging Ray.

I'm not ok with it...In my time at MSU, basketball was all I really had.

At least we've got money now. It's a new problem for us that should be interesting in a basketball coaching search. Should also be interesting in the DC search and kinda give us an idea what to expect going forward. We can be the guys that dangle the ridiculous $$ now. People aren't leaving jobs in college basketball like they once did -- but most of them haven't had the full weight of the SECNetwork $$ thrown at them yet...

Hard to put a finger on what is wrong with the team. You just cannot shoot 38.6% from the field and 6.7% from the 3-pt line and hope to win a game against decent competition.

I blame Ray for the product on the court, but at the same time, he can't shoot the ball for the players. With average shooting, we are an OK team.

Get this... we haven't topped 55 pts since our last win. That is just painful.

It would help my feelings a lot if I didn't think some of them are considerably worse shooters now than they were when we got them. Improving shooting mechanics is part of coaching. We still don't block out well, we haven't shot FT's well since Ray got here. A lot of fundamental problems that haven't improved, hard to be positive about the job he has done.

Who? None of the players we have were good shooters. Every single one of them have been super athletic guys that depended on blowing past their man in high school.

We need a couple of Riley Benok's on this team to shoot the ball and let the other guys do what they do.

What? We're out rebounding the opponent in almost every game this year, even in the losses. The entire reason we staged a comeback against upstate was because of offensive rebounds and putbacks.

Absolutely. It has been horrid.

Wrong. If there is one thing that Ray does, it is teach fundamentals and playing defense, which we do extremely well outside of guys just making terrible decisions that lead to high turnover numbers.

When you hold opponents to ~55 points or under a game you should win even with an average offense. Problem is we are well below an average offense. So feel free to rip Ray a new one about that, but the fundamental thing is way off, IMO.

There were several plays against Upstate where we had nobody in the lane to rebound. We are athletic and have rebounded pretty decently against these garbage teams but that doesn't mean we have been fundamentally sound doing it. Watch the next game and count how many times a guy should be blocking out and isn't. It's fundamental basketball and they just don't do it enough.

There are legitimate points to be made against Ray.

The reason I seem like a straight up homer on every single board that gets into the Ray talk is because people have already made their mind up that they want Ray fired, yet use the absolute wrong argument in doing so.

It's not that I even really care if Ray gets to keep the job or if he's fired, but the people calling for him to be fired are criticizing what he does well as a coach and completely ignoring the deficiencies of his work.
