First post topic I've ever made about it, actually.

Are you a fricking lawyer? Al started the thread, but you know you were the one driving the bashing towards the end of the thread.

Again, you should catch shite for starting a thread to simply rehash the shite that you were tossing out on the main board the day before.

I'm not really going to bother getting worked up about it.

If the team still sucks after the third year I want Ray gone...that's about it. I'll just enjoy baseball season and hopefully a good football season until then.

Couldn't agree more.

Although I've allowed myself to be more drawn into the argument elsewhere than I should have...

Fire Ray.

Then try to hire a respectable, good coach who will be expected to recruit well, put an offense AND a defense on the court (Stans couldn't either) all within 2 years. It would put too much blood on the throne. Nobody that was a legit up and coming coach would jump at that.. Look at what we got after Stans. It would be way worse pickings.

Ray has to completely fail. Not MSU failing Ray..

I should take this approach but the #FireRay thing is just one of those things that I can't understand right now.

You are wise. Trying to get people to understand is a tough row to hoe though.

Before anyone says something about he's already got a better job, yada yada yada... My dream was and still is Shaka Smart.

quote:

On April 4, 2011, Smart agreed to an 8-year contract extension with VCU, increasing his base pay from $350,000 to $1.2 million per year, prior to any performance bonuses

Rick Ray

quote:

Annual salary 1 million plus bonuses

If we can give Ray $1 Mil plus, surely we could throw $1.2 plus at Shaka. Give him incentives to make a ridiculous amount if he attains lofty goals.

This is what I don't understand. We all knew what was going to happen going into the season. What did we predict? I know I said 15 wins was the target. Now people are freaking the frick out because it's happening. Where is the logic here?

People being Bundy and Skirp.

It was widely established this year what the general expectations were and Bundy and Skirp wanna bring the shite back up when the going gets tough.

I call Racism on these bigots who don't wanna give Rick Ray a fair shot. We dealt with the shitshow that was Stansbury regime for years before finally getting rid of him.

Anyone who misses Rick Stansbury can phuck off IMHO. and I know, it's a good thing nobody GAF about my opinion.

Oh here yeah, but there are more people out there is my point.

People just fail to look at the big picture and the knee-jerk reaction is to fire him. That's not going to do us any good in the long run.

We talked to Shaka at the time -- and word that I heard was it was going to take $2.5 for him to seriously consider it. The same we were paying Mullen at the time -- for something that was always likely to be shitty for a couple of years.

That said, his name isn't quite as hot as it was when we made the Ray hire. So, maybe we can get him for $2.2 next year if Ray sucks -- and if Shaka doesn't make a deep run in the tournament either of the next 2 seasons...

Even if Ray ultimately fails next year -- the overall situation will be much more attractive to an incoming coach IMO...

That would be crazy if we were really willing to pay 2.2 for a basketball coach. Don't get me wrong...I would love who we could get for that type of salary. I would just be surprised.

I agree with that.

For all intents and purposes, our athletics dept works as a nonprofit. So we'll have to find somewhere to invest the extra $30+ million we'll be bringing in starting next year(SECNetwork, expanded stadium, reworked bowl structure and pricing). Where better than head basketball coach salary?

For all intents and purposes -- we're 6 months away from being one of the 25 richest athletics depts in the country. At some point, we've got to start acting like it -- and if it's time to make a basketball change a year from now -- I would expect us to go all out toward someone to put butts in seats to turn this shitshow around in a hurry...

Yeah, it would be nice to make a big splash hire in a sport for once.

As far as ROI an extra million in basketball has the potential to get you a lot more than an extra million in football.

We need to make some exec changes as well in order to start "Acting like" one of the top 25 financially well off Athletic Depts IMO.

How about we hire an Ivy League law graduate to run our compliance department?
