Has Steve Spurrier underachieved?

He's entering his 22nd year as a SEC head coach. He has won one National Championship and six SEC Championships. That's the exact same numbers as Vince Dooley (Dooley coached 25 years).
I'm 35 and I would say that Spurrier is probably the best "gameday" coach of my generation. As we all know, he would rather be on the golf course or at a NASCAR race drinking Coors Original while shirtless than recruiting or preparing a team. If he had the same drive as Saban would that have changed anything? Again, has Steve Spurrier underachieved?

Except Spurrier is the 2nd winningest SEC coach in history. So I guess Dooley is overrated.
Also has wins in every single SEC school's venue except A&M, because he hasn't played there yet, also he and Bryant are the only coaches to be all-time winners at more than 1 SEC school.

Oh and he is 3-1 vs Saban.

Look at what he did to South Carolina. No, he's one of the all time best.

Go look at USCe's overall winning pct pre-Spurrier & Post Spurrier.

He's done about the best he can do at USCe

I understand that. I'm not saying that he isn't one of the all time greats. I'm saying that he should have won more championships.

As good as Spurrier was in the 1990s, his team was often only the second or third best in the state of Florida. He coached the Gators at a time when only two other conference teams were winning 9+ games on a consistent basis (Alabama and Tennessee). His lone national title was the result of (to steal a phrase from LSU fans) a mulligan.
Spurrier has been brilliant at South Carolina, giving them the best three-year period in their program's history. But in the last few years, he has zero conference championships, zero division titles, and zero BCS appearances. This despite epic choke jobs by Georgia and Tennessee and Florida being down.

Nah... If he would have stayed at Florida, I think he might have a couple more NCs, but he's taken USCe from non-existent to a threat in the SEC almost every year...

Spurrier won 6 conference championships at a school that had zero prior to his arrival. To ask if he is an underachiever is one of the dumbest questions ever

Finally somebody with some fricking reading comprehension skills.

What Spurrier has done at SC is remarkable.
It took him a few years to get things going but the patience paid off big time.

Has Mark Richt underachieved?
Yes. Richt belongs in the Mount Rushmore of all time underachievers. Richt = Helen Hunt without a ring.

He's 16-8 against Georgia as both a player at UF and a coach at UF and Cackalacky.
