School forces half-naked, sopping wet student to stand outside, frostbite results

quote:

A Minnesota public high school was so committed to obeying its fire drill policy to the exact letter of the law that it forced a female student–dressed only in a swimsuit, and sopping wet–to stand outside in the freezing cold for ten minutes. As a result, she suffered frostbite. Administrators wouldn’t let the student retrieve her clothes, sit in a car or wait inside another building.

Hagen-Tietz asked to wait inside an employee’s car, or at the elementary school across the street. But administrators believed that this would violate official policy, and could get the school in trouble, so they opted to simply let the girl freeze.

Her fellow classmates, at least, huddled around her to try to keep her warm. And one teacher did eventually lend her a coat.

Tha hell is wrong with people? Liability issues justify ignorant behavior.

Where do you begin with this much stupidity? This school did so many stupid things that I'm literally at a loss. I mean, how am I supposed to digest an elephant that's this large and this stupid? frick it, I'm not even gonna try.

I'm just gonna say I hope she sues the shite out of the school, the teachers, the admins, the principal, and the district. Jesus Christ

googled and found another LINK that says they did let her get in a car after 10 or so minutes.

quote:

Students huddled around her and and some frigid classmates, giving her a sweatshirt to put around her feet. A teacher coughed up a jacket.

After Hagen-Tietz had suffered for ten minutes in sub-zero weather, a teacher finally received administrative permission to let her sit inside her car until students were allowed back inside.

Eva Tietz, the shivering student’s mother, told WCCO that a doctor discovered frostbite on Hagen-Tietz’s feet.

Common sense was taking a poop in someone's Tacoma truck when this went down.

The world is full of idiots and scared sheeple. I'd have gone to my truck and sat in it and if they'd have given me any hassle I'd have started it and went home. Buncha dumbasses

She probably didn't have a car at school. But your point is well-taken. A teacher should have done the same thing immediately.

Common sense died 20 yrs ago when most of the citizens wanted the government to think for them. Several people should get fired over this but wait for the unions to step in and say something like "they were just doing their jobs".

They should have fondled her while she was freezing outside just for good measure. Teachers unions love child molesters.

Just don't get it man, we bypass tons of stuff in the military and generally speaking everyone knows about it and sometimes encourages it when no one's looking.

An exercise is never a good excuse to injure someone -- it's a good time to have a policy that would better evacuate them when it happens for real.

This is really stupid.

Is there a job opening for this? What are the prerequisites (meth user, politician, boy scout leader, SECr Admin guy)?

First of all, why the frick are you making ANY of the students stand around outside for more than 10 minutes in sub-zero weather? Once everyone is outside, the drill is done - get their asses back inside!

And if I were that girl, I would have just walked back inside. And if anyone had tried to physically restrain me, I'd have looked at them and said "If I get any kind of cold-injury from this, I'm coming after you." People are less inclined to enforce idiotic rules when you personalize it for them.
