Another day, another poll.

The Football Writers Association of America and National Football Foundation have partnered to form the FWAA-NFF Grantland Rice Super 16 poll beginning in 2014. The announcement was made Tuesday morning.

Beginning this season, the top 16 teams will be ranked weekly by a roster of 36 voters. Twenty-six of those will be FWAA members, “current or past writers of national stature," according to the press release. The 10 NFF voters will consist college football hall of fame players, coaches and administrators.

The voting roster will be released in the early summer. Given the history and influence of both organizations, the new poll could be considered a third major poll along with the AP and coaches' polls.

Wonder what trophy they will present.

The FWAA presented the Grantland Rice trophy.

The NFF presented the MacArthur trophy.

so will Bama go back and claim more titles now looking at who won the FWAA and NFF polls?

inquiring minds would like to know

Alabama already claims all the FWAA/NFF title years. They are normally in line with the AP/Coaches anyway.

Given the new playoff format I cannot think of ANY scenario possible where the winner of the 4 team playoff was not #1 in every poll everywhere.

I hope they go with the Grantland Rice because the MacArthur isn't permanent (you have to give it back after a year).

Polls are on the decline, a third poll in the playoff era will be of little importance

Seems a little pointless to start a new poll the year the playoffs start.

Don't have to. The FWAA and NFF national championships Bama won coincides with the AP/UPI national championship years.

In fact, Bama is the team with the most FWAA and the NFF titles.

FWAA - Grantland Rice Trophy - 7 (1965, 1978, 1979, 1992, 2009, 2011, 2012)

National Football Foundation - MacArthur Trophy 7 (1961, 1978, 1979, 1992, 2009, 2011, 2012)

seems like a set-up in prep for a 16-team bracket in the near future

I want to believe this, but I can't. I just saw on cfb datawarehouse, that some guy listed LSU as the national champions in '06( ) and '01( ) Bob Kirlin.

Don't be madd. LSU has won the MacArthur trophy twice, once by Saban and once by Miles. Saban has won it 4 times. LSU won the Grantland Rice once.

The Grantland Rice trophy is Arkansas' 64 national title.

What if there are 5 undefeated teams? Or if an undefeated team loses final to 2-loss team (maybe a 2 loss SEC champ). Just some hypotheticals.

That's why you should avoid that garbage and only go by the the records book.
