Sitting here listening to "Comfortably Numb" and finding it difficult to think of a better one. David Gilmour is a guitar God.

Gilmour has a very distinctive style and this was his magnum opus. Its definitely my favorite solo. Gilmour had a way of drawing out so much emotion with his style of play.

Oh there are many. Some of my faves are Free Bird, Highway Song, Stairway to Heaven, Evil Eyes, Beat It, A Million Miles Away, Hail to the King, Hotel California, All Along the Watchtower, Crazy Train, Sultans of Swing, Sweet Child O' Mine, Too Rolling Stoned, Hallowed be Thy Name, several Thin Lizzy songs (Boys are Back in Town, Warrior, Emerald), Don't Fear the Reaper, Bulls on Parade, Rock You Like A Hurricane, Man in the Box, and several Judas Priest songs. I like Pink Floyd too although I really don't have a particular solo of theirs I like better than the others. Pigs (3 different ones) stands out.

Any Mark Knopfler solo...Duane Allman on R&B stuff, Pete Anderson when he wants to be over the top and musically funny.

I once bought an acoustic guitar at a pawn shop in Decatur, Alabama, (Seems like it was a Fender), that had "Dickie Betts" (sp?) in pearl inlay down the fret board. I was proud of it, and showed it to my friend, who is a studio player all over Nashville and Muscle Shoals,etc.. He looked at me and asked how much I gave for it, it was like 400 bucks, he said," you didn't get hurt too bad" but he said that those guitars were all over the place in our area.

Probably doesn't meet the criteria, but my all time favorite is from "Time" by Pink Floyd. They are easily one of the greatest bands ever.

no one can come close to eddie. I don't care what all of the other old folks say. this dude had to sometimes perform with his back to the crowd so that spies wouldn't pick up his tricks.

"Rock and Roll/Celebration Day" from Song Remains the Same is still one of my favorites off a live album.
"Baby, Please Don't Go" and "Just What the Doctor Ordered" from Double Live Gonzo by Ted is on my ipod rotation for the gym.*

Comfortably Numb is up there. I love Duane and Dickey trading licks on Blue Sky. Dane has so many it's hard to pick just one, but there are a few live recordings of Stormy Monday that he absolutely destroys.
Love the guitar into on Cortez the Killer by Neil Young. Love Slash's guitar work throughout Estranged and November Rain.
Trey Anastasio rips it on several, though it's hard to pick the solos in some of them. Divided Sky and Slave to the Traffic Light are my two favorites.

Yeah there are really to many to list but Robert Johnson,Randy Rhodes and Phil Lynott speak to me. I am quite sure there are others as well. I haven't even mentioned Roger McGuinn or Bonnie Raitt.

Wow just b/c you can play fast as shite, doesn't mean your music is good. I hardly listen to them, other than the radio, so thats what I'm basing my judgement on. Please post a video that your proud of......music is more than just speed.
Allman brothers, jimi hendrix, pink floyd, led zeppelin are at the top for a reason. Its hard to pick the greatest solo ever.....i'll have to get back with you on that one.
The cd, Animals, by Pink Floyd is just freaking awesome! Dogs might have the best guitar solo by Floyd, if not all time.
