I'm in the minority of wanting to keep Barbee I know but good article.

"I've got a lot of respect for what Tony's done," Donovan, who admitted that Auburn out-played Florida on Wednesday night, said. "I think it's a sign of great coaching when your guys play that hard even though they're out of SEC contention."

I say give him another year. If we're still losing games in the last two minutes, then it's time to move on.

He gets 2-3 games each year where he out coaches a decent coach, but still loses.

He has not been able to keep a consistent roster and develop the talent. His teams are consistently making mental mistakes (see end of UF game and our constantly abysmal free throw shooting).

He needs to go.

I concur. We should give him another year.

Last year we weren't even competitive in the last few minutes. Most games were over by halftime. When ESPN zoomed in on the Auburn huddle when Barbee drew up a play to got Shamsid-Deen a point blank layup that he missed that would have put Auburn up by 4 points under a minute left, the players were really tuned in to whatever he was saying. Commentators were all over that.

How can you say he hasn't develop talent? Is Denson not one of the top scorers in the league? ADT has gotten better and Shamsid-Deen has got better through this season. If you look at Auburn's losses, we could very easily be 8-5 in the conference, a bunch of 2 or 3 points losses. The program is going in the right direction though the record doesn't reflect that. We are competing at a high level night in and night out.

Auburn will be a nightmare for any team in the SEC tournament and will be the team no one wants to play.

He is also getting significantly more playing time this season compared to seasons past. I would expect his scoring to go up. As a player, I haven't seen much improvement out of him. He always had the ability to get to the basket, which is what he pretty much only does. How has he gotten worse at free throws?

Not seeing it really.

Is this Barbee's doing or him just getting use to the speed of CBB?

When I see the team make the same mistakes every single year, that is a sign of poor coaching.

no

Yet to be seen. The team got up for some big games. Lets see how they respond now. This has happened the past two years. They make a good run for a few games, and everyone thinks they are turning the corner.

If anybody had seen Chubb as a freshman they would understand the miracle that Barbee worked with him to make him mediocre. Payne is another one that has improved greatly.

Do you remember him as a freshman? He is never going to be a scorer but teams do have to actually guard him now and his defense and rebounding have improved dramatically.

I think he was better last year. Every game I've watched (which has been most that are on tv or I can find on firstrowsports) I've been incredibly frustrated with Payne.

If this teams finds a way to make a nice run to end the season and in the SEC tourney, I'll reconsider my position, however we basically had this exact same thread last year. Then the team falls back to reality.

I will not go that far but what I will say is they will scare Tennesse chitless in a couple weeks. Auburn can single handedly knock Tennessee out of the NCAA tourney.

What I will say about the SEC tourney is AU will be no worse than the 10 seed. If they are playing a 7 seed who is on the bubble AU is a team you do not want to see. They will be dangerous in that situation.

Free throws ain't an easy problem to solve. If it was, Roy Williams would have solved it with his team.

ADT when he got to Auburn was a skinny uncoordinated shot blocker. He looks like an average SEC center now more like Mamadou in the late 90s.

We had this thread last season? The season where we lost 10 games in a row, blown out in most of them? This team is nothing like last year's team even though we have so many new pieces this year. This year team would be last year's team by 20.

That's what I mean. Auburn is playing at the level of the top teams in the conference. If I was a middle of the conference team (NCAA bubble team), I wouldn't want to play Auburn. Though unlikely, I think Auburn is playing well enough to make a run in the SEC tournament. I mean who in the conference you can guarantee this Auburn team will lose to?

Never said it was easy. The best coaches however do not have consistent problems with it. Roy Williams doesn't have a player on his team for four years, and he shoot as poorly as Denson does. Barbee has not had a single team that is at least respectable at shooting free throws. I don't even want to count how many games it has cost us.

Are we watching different games or something? He is still skinny and uncoordinated. He is constantly in foul trouble.

Yes. I want to say it was after the stretch where we almost beat Illinois, then beat FSU, LSU, and Arky back to back to back. We've had this thread the past two seasons at least. They play a few good games (this season the good games came more at the end), and everyone thought the team had turned the corner.

I would also say the SEC is significantly worse than it was last year.
