Doesn't matter, have melt.

Sounds like a player safety issue to me, pretty cut and dry.

Gumps and Barners need to start a new section for this everlasting melt, getting old.

Damn Troy Schulte couldn't have done any worse of a job conveying that statement on Twitter.

Rantards gonna rantard though

I saw the statement on twitter, but who sent it out? How do we know it is official?

It's ripped from the transcript that ArkansasNews posted.

Arkansasnews.com just posted an article with even more information with the interview including questions FWIW.

I can see his point, but it seems like a ridiculous notion to me.
"The player in California, they were actually talking to him. He walked off the field and began to communicate with them. And then several minutes later, he was dead. We have players in that same situation."
Doesn't seem like getting them off of the field is going to prevent something like this happening again. Seems like a sickle-cell RB would be at risk if he broke a 90 yard run. Does he want them to stop as soon as they get winded instead?
I'm all about safety, but I don't buy his reasoning at all. I think this whole mess is making us look like pussies.

No one is talking about this except for HV mouth-breathers and the Rantards. Some writer from Cal commented, but no one would have even known that if that fatass Ruscin hadn't quoted him.

I could care less if someone thinks I'm a pussy
what I know to be true, that I'm not a pussy, is all that matters. reality is we're not pussies, who gives a shite what people think

You got to be a dummy to think Bert believes this is a saftey issue...This is the best/only angle to play.
There are many defensive coaches in the country that probably think he is the GOAT.

it's one issue
I see it as being proactive on the rule change and not sitting back, waiting on the injuries to start piling up.

if nothing else I gotta hand it to bert for sticking to his guns even though he's come under a lot of fire
a lot of lesser men would have wilted and went with the group think

I disagree with BB here. There is a play clock for a reason. How the offensive team chooses to use the play clock is and SHOULD be entirely up to them. Wanting 10 seconds to sub is basically saying we can't stop it with a scheme so let's make the rules different so we have a chance.
He needs to put on his big boy pants and figure out how to outscheme it.....

The play clock in existence currently came about in 2008. This change WILL happen, it's just a question of whether it happens this year for safety or next year because the HUNH coaches are bunch of douchebags.
I think it's a bit silly to assume that it isn't about safety for Bret. If you've ever listened to him speak on the issue you can tell that it's a major hot button for him and he's vehement about the safety aspect. You have to keep in mind that our coach isn't a cynical self-serving cheater who'd stop at nothing to win while pretending to give a shite. Our coach actually does care about his athletes.
This is way more important to football than you realize. This is college football (and I think we can agree that Saban just wants the rule changed) doing something proactive to help player safety before it's forced to. That's a big deal. The current environment mandates that football act that way or else it will be gone within the next 30 years. The folks who will stop at literally nothing to gain an advantage don't give two shits about that and are currently recruiting as many criminals as they can down on the plains.
So, you have to ask yourself.. is it more important to do things to protect these young men and the sport of football... or to pander to the dipshits like Malzahn.

Is player safety really going to be impacted THAT much by a 10 second rule? Why not make this shite two-below and we'll solve 90% of safety concerns.
Posted on 2/21/14 at 11:55 am to ocelot4ark
Honestly we have no fricking clue. There haven't been any specific studies done. I'm not talking about those dumbass injury per play metrics.. I'm talking about actual scientific studies on the likelihood of injury.
On the other hand I think there are going to be rule changes to eliminate the really fricking annoying shite like the prairie dog offense and the other issues that came about unintentionally with the 40 second clock.
