Right.

The more I think about the E. King Gill move to the stands, the more I like it. Can anyone think of another stadium, in any sport, that has a statue in the actual stands? Much less in the best seat in the house?

Me too. The Duke of Randolph would kill himself writing a novel explaining how dumb that was.

Nope. That'd be a great way to differentiate.

This would be the best part.

Unlike 12 empty seats representing great fans, this King Gill idea could EASILY be explained by the broadcasters, who would fawn all over the opportunity to show the statue in the stands and then transition to gushing about how good the fans really are.

Longhorns, although they could understand the symbolism, would just hate it and their Randolph Duke-type fans would exhaust themselves to the point of seizures by ranting non-stop for the next decade about how cheesy it is, which would please me greatly.

I could see him yelling at the screen during our broadcast (as you know he watches every game):

"No you idiot announcer! The 12mn statue is NOT original or cool! They stole it! The nasty Aggies stole everything my precious!!"

Not that close man.

This isn't Oklahoma State with no sideline room.

That's funny. He is Gollum-esq. Didn't someone find out that he's in his forties and lives in a one bedroom apartment on the crap south-side of Houston? I see an analogy here in that Gollum lived in a cave deep under the mountains.

BREAKING:

In light of the massive protest on this issue, I saw that Sharp is taking it back to committee and reconsidering the idea.

Good! Because I didn't want to see cadets with hacksaws get kicked out of school over this.

I wish they had said they were going to scrap the idea completely but at least they are going to rethink it.

Give it a day or two. Sharp apparently feels obligated to run this by all the bigs, which he probably should do. But I don't see that they have much choice now given the large majority against it. It's possible we'll get another round of "look, ya'll just don't understand" BS, but I doubt it.

That thing going back for reevaluation is the nice way for saying its dead while saving face. Won't see the light of day again.
