What caused A&M's sudden surge in recruiting?

A&M is located in a recruiting hotbed and I believe they have huge endowment and other resources as well. How did they averaged #21 ranked class over the decade? This is not a flame btw.

Those numbers are deceptive. Our recruiting actually sucked far worse than that - they were propped up by a few guys who were ranked highly but Texas didn't want because they knew they wouldn't get in - and, sure enough, they didn't.

Why were they so bad for so long? Because we sucked and Texas and OU took all of the top Texas talent. We virtually never beat either of those schools for a recruit.

Now, OU and Texas are taking the guys we don't offer. It's been quite a turnaround!

What has caused the turnaround? SEC, Sumlin, JFF. Perfect storm.

I mean this isn't like the first time weve ever recruited at a high level. we were doing so when we were running train on the SWC

We owned the state in recruiting in the SWC in the 80's and 90's. This isn't a completely new thing to us. We had one decade of Frantastic football that we're just now recovering from.

That was what worked so well about our SEC move.

You look at our numbers- fans, money, endowment, etc. - and we compare well to most of the country on paper. But despite all that we were number 2/3 in the Big 12, which was a big enough drop that it put us much closer to Texas Tech than OU and Texas.

With the SEC move, now we get to compete with programs with far fewer resources than us and the better comparison base is making us standout to recruits.

I am not saying the SEC is weak by any means, and we still need to earn a respect on the field. But its much easier to be taken seriously when you force a fresh perspective.

Everyone wants to play with the big boys in the SEC. TAMU produces a Heisman winner in 1st year in SEC. That + Sumlin/staff +the state of Texas = TAMU's surge in recruiting

They also knocked off Bama and was the 2nd most viewed team in all of college football the last 2 years if i'm not mistaken.

In addition, Baylor and OK state have been stealing 4 star and once in a blue moon 5 star recruits as well from their brothers in the b12. Honestly, I never thought Texas\OU would have to fight so hard for recruits.

I don't think A&Ms recruiting dominance last forever ,but they will never have below a top 15 recruiting ranking ever again.
