Similar thing happened to me. One week, I drove back to CS with my parent's car due to a bad fuel pump (GM just can't get those right 
).
I parked the car in lot 40 and got a ticket under my name.
They know. (Or probably just cross referenced any associated addresses with current students on campus)

Now that I'm not a student anymore I just park wherever the frick I want when I'm back on campus. Haven't gotten a ticket yet and that actually disappoints me a little

I actually have experience on this. If you do get a ticket, all you have to do is take it to the office and tell them you're a visitor and didn't know (hide your Aggie ring of course
). They'll drop it. But if the Transportation Services Mafia is feeling like the Mexican Zetas, I wouldn't put it past them to link it to your AFS account and not allow you to renew your season tickets or get a transcript.

Did she happen to be using your parking sticker / parking pass? When I got the ticket I scoffed at first thinking "Got an SC plate, in a visitor's parking garage, no way they can know." Then I realized I left my parking pass on and it was printed on the ticket.

I used to work at the Papajohn's on north gate delivering pizzas all over campus. I used to LOVE flaunting the parking rules all the time when I had the delivery logo on my car's roof. I parked in handicap areas, fire zones, campus lots everywhere. Once I parked on the damn sidewalk outside of blocker and ran up to deliver a pizza to a study group or something.
When I came back down, there was a campus cop or meter maid going by writing tickets. I looked at her and she laughs and said "oh don't worry honey, you're good." I just drove off. Never got a ticket with that thing on my car. Some of the drivers didn't like em, but I'd have taken one home if they'd let me.
