Not to knock the kid but he's already 17. He should be going into his senior year.

Edit: great get though. I think the rise of the level of talent in Tn is going to be what brings UT back.

Mine's better as it's not only truthful but also all inclusive of all Bama supporter and for bonus points even free of homophobic undertones:

He's headed into his junior year. Lots of kids, and especially boys, are held back a year from starting school. It's become more and more common in the past 20 years to do just that for many reasons. I have a friend that's contemplating doing just that right now and not for any sports reasons. It helps countless young boys and girls early in their academic life as well as later to start them a year later.

I do think this is becoming more common. Not sure if it's a good thing or not. My kid is not in school yet, but I like the idea of giving him an "advantage" however it still feels kind of sleazy holding back a kid that does not really need to be held back.

There's only one reason to hold a kid back and that's for athletics. Everything I've read regarding the starting age of a student is it's better to start them a year earlier than a year later. Now, if he's had some difficulty in elementary or middle school with academics that's another thing. And I would not say "lots" of people are doing it.

Well yeah, it gives them a year's worth of maturity growth advantage over their classmates. That's why private schools in my area are putting much more strict age restrictions in place. They don't want to put kids who follow protocol at a disadvantage.

I started school a year earlier than most people (not an athlete). It really sucks having to see all your friends turn 16, 18, and 21 way before you.

I would imagine, especially seeing all your friends turn 21 way before you

really sucked, especially cause out of all my good friends, the last one to turn 21 was 6 months before me.
