Since this is alledgly about "player safety", there are tons of data about concussions suffered by quarterbacks that have led to memory loss. Brett Farve recently stated he's suffers from memory loss from the hits he taken over the years. Since most team can't sack or hit the QB without blitzing, wouldn't this reduced concussions? Silly notion but when do this silly "player safety" stuff stop? It's a freaking unsafe sport. Maybe if they just make players sign a waiver of liability, they can avoid lawsuits and these dumb rules to protect players.

Why not, they've already passed so many pro offense rules that the game is almost unrecognizable. Who knew a pro defense rule for a change would cause everyone to shite bricks. I guess that's what happens when your entire offensive scheme is not based in having better players, coaches, scheme, play calling, but instead depends on exploiting a presnap procedural rule quirk. When that quirk gets rectified to some degree I can fully understand the panic.
