Butch Jones isn't happy about the proposed HUNH rule changes

From his radio interview today:
quote:
"I’d like to have research and data before altering and changing the rules of the game," Jones told WNML radio in an exclusive interview earlier today. "I want to see data produced from an injury standpoint. I don’t want opinion. I want facts and figures. Show me the numbers."
quote:
Some coaches – including Alabama’s Nick Saban and Arkansas’ Bret Bielema -- have argued that the hurry up offense is a safety concern for players. The more snaps, the more chance for injury. Jones isn’t so sure. He said he’s been a part of teams running a hurry-up offense since 2001 and he’s not seen an uptick in injuries in the last 20-25 plays of a game during that 12-year span. "I don’t think it comes down to a matter of safety," Jones said. "It’s a matter of personal preference. Every program has a style of play, just like every basketball team, from pressing to pushing the ball down the court. Same thing in football. That’s what makes this game; the strategy that goes behind it."
quote:
Many argue that defensive players exert more energy than offensive players because defenders are taught to run to the football. Jones doesn’t buy it. "The way we play offense, we expect our guys to run to the football as well," Jones said. "We expect our offensive linemen to sprint to the football as well."
quote:
"A lot more things need to be addressed with player safety than up-tempo offense," Jones said. "Let’s concern ourselves with real hard facts in moving the game forward." Jones does favor a proposal in which if replay shows a targeting foul that led to an ejection is reversed, the penalty can also be nullified. "I think it will be beneficial," Jones said. "It’s really hard to tell your player, `you know what, you made a good play and it wasn’t a penalty, but they’re still giving you a penalty."

Freeze, Sumlin, or Malzahn can lend a shoulder for Jones to cry on.

Nicky is coming accross a little boy holding his breath in the corner until his mother lets him have his way. Imagine what other rules would have changed if Saban had won his "three in a row". Now the rest of the country can see Mr Forbes Mag as a bitter old coach, who is watching the Offense ruin his run.

You do realize when Bert washes out the Swills will try hiring a Malzahn clone, right?

Tell Butch that sound reasoning and logic aren't allowed in this discussion.

That's only part of the equation. There's little doubt that the defense does have to work harder for the simple reason that the offense knows where there going and the defense is having to move to account for multiple modes of attack. A classic example is a LB hits a hole to plug a running lane and the RB bounces to the outside. The RB obviously knows where he's going and the LB has to adjust fighting through blocks just to try and overcome his miscalculation and get into position to make a play. Same with DL. They are fighting tooth and nail with all kinds of moves trying to get to the QB while the OL just hold their ground often with help from other blockers. Safeties frequently have to cover a lot of ground after a QB looks one way faking them out and then throws to the other side of the field. There's a lot more to it than just running to the ball and there's now way offensive players are working as hard when the play is going to the other side of the field.

Saban scheme predicated on mixing and matching personnel with down and distance. HUNH takes that a way. That is all this is about. Very simple.

Hold them to 3 and out.... Problem solved!
What's the difference in a uptempo offense that can't get things going and that teams D has to spend 40 minutes on the field?
Guess they will have to look into T.O.P. rules for player safety sake due to all the extra snaps the Defense could potentially play when their Offense is struggling.

Haha...no.
We won't want him after he's fired with Gus.

I think they should eliminate the fast break in college basketball. Crossing midcourt in under 10 seconds after retaining possession of the ball on defense will result in a personal foul.
WE GOTSTA DO IT FO THA KIDZZZ!!!! THINK ABOUT DEM KIDZ RUNNIN UP AND DOWN DA COURT WITHOUT A BREAK!
