@ProFootballTalk: Auburn won't let veteran offensive lineman Tyronne Green return to participate in Pro Day workout LINK

Kids at Northwestern and elsewhere need to keep this in mind if/when they unionize. One of the terms sought in exchange for the effort they expend and the risks they assume should be the ability to return as needed to participate in Pro Day workouts, in the hopes of getting to the NFL or staying there.

Until then, NFL players who are asked to make donations to their former college programs should factor whether the school fully supports the men who played football in the past as they try to get a fair shake at the next level. At Auburn, the current answer that question apparently is no.

This has been a pretty shitty couple of weeks from a PR standpoint

It's easy to forget we're only hearing one side of the story.

Why does a 4 yr nfl vet need to come back to AU for a combine?

Green may have done something to not be allowed to participate.

To workout for pro teams.

Hope we have a good reason for not letting a former player not get a better shot at the NFL.

Yeah I'm sure there's more to the story and him running to the press isn't going to make any GM more receptive to signing him but it still looks bad for Auburn

Who knows... at face value, it takes away from the younger guys trying to make an impression and get the shot greene's already had... But it's not like we've got a bunch if OLs trying out this year.

If the current guys don't out perform him by a bunch then it will serve as a reference point that could impact their draft status. He's already been in the league.

FWIW here's input from Bryan Matthews LINK
quote:

Auburn's Pro Day is for its seniors and draft eligible players from last year only. They turned away several players last year too. The reasoning is that if you don't, you'll have 5 or 6 players from each class trying to come back every year, and that will take away from the guys that are working out for the scouts the first time. It can also piss off the scouts that come here to see the current crop, if they have to weed through a bunch of other guys.

As for Green, he's been in the NFL for five years. Every team is going to know everything they need to about him. This story is just about his agent trying to draw attention to Green and trying to shame Auburn into doing something.
