Why do we get the hardest schedule? I thought it was supposed to be a sliding scale with whoever finishes first getting the hardest.

OOD they get Chicago, @ Green Bay, @ Minnesota, Cleveland, @ Baltimore, Pittsburg, @ Cincinnati, Arizona, and @ New York.

Damn, pretty rough shite for a team that did as bad as they did.

They must not do it that way anymore. I thought the exact same thing when I saw the link.

That's some bullshite if true. I could understand it when the new stadium is built but there's no reason to reward us with the hardest schedule.

The NFL used to do the schedule like this:

Each team plays their division opponents twice (6 games)

Each team also plays two other divisions in their entirety. For example NFC West will face AFC South and NFC South (8 games)

There was only a difference of 2 games in each team within a division. For example, the Falcons would face two teams from divisions that we aren't otherwise playing in their entirety that also finished 3rd in their division, while the Panthers would face two teams that finished first in their division (since the Falcons were 3rd in the NFC South last year and the Panthers were 1st). This is why it seemed like Manning played Brady nearly every year despite not being in the same division. Indy and New England were typically first in their division so they'd get paired off often.

No clue why this was changed by the NFL.

It hasn't changed from this format.

The entire South plays the NFC North and AFC North next season. The other two games are against the NFC East and NFC West in revere order of finish in 2013

Tampa plays WAS and STL
Atlanta plays NYG and ARI
New Orleans plays DAL and SF
Carolina plays PHI and SEA

What's the complaint here?

I don't think strength of schedule matters much in the NFL. There's so much parity year to year. Look how teams you think are poised for Super Bowl runs or even past champs don't even make the playoffs the next year. Teams have a better chance of turning it around or turning to shite quickly, like us last year...

Our road games must be tougher. Seems like the easiest slate of those teams by far

Alldawg got it right. There are only 2 games with which to adjust the schedule based on prior year record, this year we pulled the Cards and the Giants which seems about right.

As yall have said, the format for NFL schedules hasn't changed. What makes the Falcons schedule hardest on paper is that we play the Panthers and Saints twice. Those teams will be playing more difficult games for the two games where the schedule differs, but obviously they wont be able to play themselves so their schedule is easier when looking at last year's standings.

It's like looking at Tennessee's SEC East schedule vs. our SEC East schedule. Their's will always be harder since we play them and they play us (and they've sucked for the past decade).
