Did anyone see Cecil Hurt's column about the Alabama basketball program? Any thoughts?

Hello Bamaman54, Glad you stopped by to participate in the board. On this board and any other board on SECrant.com or td.com there are some hard and fast rules about thread starting. If you're going to start a thread with a discussion of an article, it would be nice if you would include an article link and a short excerpt. Additionally,a more descriptive title is absolutely required. Something like, "Cecil Hurt says its time for a change" Or "Hurt says Grant deserves one more year." Something along those lines. As it stands right now Alahunter will probably be around to anchor your thread and belittle you. Hopefully, my intervention will put a damper on his tyrannical rule around these parts and all you'll feel is the heavy weight that an anchor carries. If you decide to change your OP with the required elements, then I'm sure your anchor will be lifted.

saw it ...

he's dancing on the edges, as he should, i suppose ...

i get battle's email ... i agree, sounds as if he was directing his thoughts to the bball program, but the fans are damn tired of mediocre bball and the excuses for it ...

I liked it. I didn't take it as him dancing around the edges as much as it was him trying to analyze it rationally. He pretty much says it might be time to look elsewhere, but Grant isn't the Gomer Pyle of coaching like some/most Bama fans are making him out to be.

Thanks. Putting the link in your op would probably be a good idea as some may only see that there is no link and leave without scanning, cutting down the opportunities for further discussion.

I think Grant probably was a good hire at the time. He did well at VCU and the next logical step for him was a program like us. It seemed like a good fit, but alas, it didn't work out.

When the local media is not on your team anymore you will find you don't have a job.

For Cecil to even publish that indicates that increasingly it is okay to be pessimistic around Grant.

I still think Grant is a good basketball coach and he's going to be successful elsewhere, but for whatever reason its gone downhill here and he isn't going to be able to turn it around IMO. He didn't forget how to coach, its a shame it isn't working out. It's ironic to me that the downfall this year is the team's awful defense while offensive productivity has actually improved. Defense often comes from effort.
