The program Hugh inherited and why you should take notice of Ole Miss football

I think many of you are underestimating how decimated the Ole Miss football program was towards the end of the 2011 season.

On the heels of a 4 win season that saw a season-opening loss to Jacksonville State and a 2 win season where the team absolutely quit and laid down (mercy knee, blown out by Louisiana Tech, etc.), the program had never been lower.

As has been documented often, nearly half of the kids Nutt and Orgeron recruited to Oxford didn't graduate or didn't see the field (especially many of the higher star-valued recruits). Both were unable to develop the QB position and relied heavily on transfers and jucos. Nutt let the OL go his final 2 years and left us with practically no depth there in 2012. Ole Miss making a bowl in 2012 was due to two things: insane luck regarding injuries and a shift in the culture of the program.

For Hugh Freeze to win 15 games, including 2 bowls, in his first two seasons in the SEC West is amazing to say the least.

For Hugh to be recruiting the level of talent to Oxford that he has over the past two years is a testament to his hard work and the belief he has instilled in the program.

Ole Miss is trending up and you're lying to yourself if you refuse to acknowledge it.

TL;DR: GFY and STBBDB

Nutt left the cupboard stacked with talent and built the recruiting relationships seen in last year's class.

He was able to do this after doing something not done at Ole Miss in 50 years.

OM made a mistake in firing one of the best coaches they have ever had.

Absolutely. Nutt laid a hell of a foundation.

Our skill positions weren't in bad shape but our lines were in just putrid shape. I also know you're being your usual trolling self but those two nine win seasons were full of inexcusable losses.

When that fricker said the week after we lost to BYU in 2011, "If you think you feel bad about this loss, that's how bad I feel in the tip of my pinkie" I wanted his arse gone.

Nutt squandered that 08 team. So much talent.

You do realize there are 11 other games in the regular season right?

How is it that Freeze has been able to beat a top 10 team in just two years but it still alludes State going into year 6 with Dan?

So would you say that the Cotton Bowl was the peak of Ole Miss athletics in your life time?

One of the great oddities of the Ole Miss fan culture is that all failures are blamed on previous coaches and the current coach, whoever it is, is worshipped.....until he is gone and then he becomes the reason for all the failures of the coach that succeeds him.

This allows people to go on tolerating mediocrity indefinitely and prevents any kind of serious accountability of the sort that you see at most other SEC programs.....which is why the mediocrity has continued for 4 decades and counting......and the OP is a perfect example of that.....

I think you have to give up your alter once it's been exposed. Unwritten rule.

There is just so much stupid in that post. It's like you just kind of slapped your face on the keyboard.
