Franklin interview starts at about 27 minute mark

Starts to go 'downhill' at 28:30 mark
Paul goes for the throat at 31:00 mark
Like a starving Rottweiler on a bone at 32:00 mark
Applies jugular crushing bite at 33:30 mark

Regarding Franklin flipping Vandy recruits to PSU. New found respect for Pawwwwllll.

I think there might be 3.

I usually only catch Finebaum during the Jerry Springer call in part. He surprised me with the interview. He was tough and didn't let go.

It's worth a quick listen. I haven't seen this side of Paul. I was impressed.

The only problem I have with Franklin is how he left Vandy. He had that whole week where he knew he was going to go and he was recruiting for PSU on Vandy's dime. I don't see why it's bad that he took kids he had been recruiting for a couple years. Obviously those kids were coming to Vandy for Franklin not the school.

Paul addressed that. Franklin had a coachspeak answer but Finebaum was having none of it.

That was the most calm and subtle argument I have quite possibly ever heard over the airwaves. Very similar to the interview Dan Patrick did with Pine Box Tommy last year. Both interviews were pretty uncomfortable for the listener though.

Yeah, usually when the guest gives what is obviously their final answer, the interviewer moves on to something else. Paul wasn't letting go.

Yeah. I thought Paul did a pretty good job with his questioning. It's like he was using interrogation tactics. Don't let up until you rattle their cages a bit.

His goal was obviously to make Franklin look like a prick.

"I haven't seen this side of Finebaum. I was impressed."

That's what Alabama fans have been trying to tell LSU fans. Finebaum was a hardass investigate reporter early in his career and isn't afraid to mix it up and go after people in an interview. I've heard him in interviews with Alabama coaches, other coaches, civil right leaders, etc where he has challenged them and pushed them to the edge and had them arguing and threatening to kick his arse. He is basically a nerdy version of Jim Rome during the Jim Everett interview. He isn't afraid to go in interviews where others are afraid to.

Well for me, it was my shortcoming. Due simply to timing I pretty much only knew the Jerry Springer call-in part. But if this is fairly common for his interviews...kudos to Paul.

I have no problem with James Franklin bringing kids he recruited to Vandy to PSU. Anybody who think it's not right or dirty needs to get there head out of the sand, if Saban or Miles or any coach left they would do the same thing. I just wish a coach could come out and say " yeah I took those kids because they could help me win and keep my job" which is the truth but ESPN and the PC police would say he's a bad guy when it's far from the truth.

That was one thing Paul latched on to. Franklin earlier had apparently decried this practice....then 'practiced' it.

I'm not a Finebaum groupie but he was an award winning investigative journalist (think Yahoo's Charles Robinson) in the early 80s and wrote an award winning column for the Birmingham Post Herald for nearly 20 years WAY before he ever got into radio. In fact, he didn't start his radio show until the mid to late 90s. He has built his entire career on provoking high profile people and asking questions almost all interviewers are afraid to ask.
