Why was Cliff Ellis fired?

I faintly remember we may have had some violations, but were they serious? The guy got us a #1 seed in the tourney and another sweet 16 after that. I never really understood why he was let go. Thats about the best Au basketball can expect.

It was really the desire to do better. He had become complacent. Kind of a tubs like thing.

Pretty much. The probation wasn't really that big of a deal, but it was used as an excuse to run him off. If I recall correctly, a lot of people including Cliff were shocked that he got fired.

Ellis was 14 and 14 his final year. The previous season he had reached the NCAA tourney, coincidentally AU's last appearance. He is also AU's second-winningest basketball coach in school history. Ed Richardson fricked us along with a couple other AU sports programs

Richardson fricked us with Ellis and then turned around and fricked up the Mike Anderson hire by insisting he interview in Auburn with no guarantee that he would get the job.

A former assistant under Ellis at Auburn and one of my dad's friends fell on the sword for him and got canned. Don't really have much respect for the guy.

Local news stopped me to ask for my reaction to the firing of Cliff Ellis that morning. I was already a total zombie at the time, but my reaction was definitely a "Cliff got fired? What? When? What?"

He was spending too much time on his side career as a gangsta rapper.
ETA: Seriously, in retrospect letting Cliff go was a huge mistake. Dude could flat out coach, we aren't going to succeed without cheating anyway, plus he's way cooler than Bruce Pearl would ever dream of being.

Lol I wish I had made the news that night. They aired 2 to 3 students who sounded alert and aware at 10am i. e. not me.
