With the announcement that Rocker will coach the will (rush) linebacker along with the front 3 does that leave us room for a full time ST coach? Sherrer coaches the other 3 lb and Pruitt coaches the secondary?

Technically I guess it could, it just seems unnecessary to have a coach strictly devoted to ST.

If it was advantageous, everyone in america would be doing it. I'd imagine only a small handful of teams actually do.

It certainly appears that that's a possibility, especially with CMR's comments on McKenzie's arrival indicating a return of the return game. Here's hoping!

ETA: LINK Do with this what you may. S/O to the Senator for linking this on today's GTP.

I would say the same thing. most of the time its a positional coach, that either has players not involved much in other aspects(Like a TE coach on a team that doesnt use TE's that much) or positional coach that has a lot of the same guys on ST

If we absolutely had to have one, I'd have Lilly do it. TEs learn blocking with OL and routes with WRs. To have a dedicated coach for 3 guys on scholarship seems kinda crazy. At least STs involve all 11 guys on the field.

12 if you count half of the defensive penalties during the CTG era.

Doubtful unless they allow staffs to have 10 coaches.

Part of the loophole is that the analyst can't be present during sanctioned practices or workouts.

Special Teams Coach
We have this to lure in a good ST guy.

Even better, send him Chubb and Michel film. Let those guys compete for kick return duty so they can see the field.

Anyone remember when Gurley and Marshall were returning kicks early last year? I remember one in particular vs Mizzou.

Let the young bloods take a crack at it. This McKenzie guy just seems too small to be able to break tackles at this level, yes he is elusive and fast but I doubt he could break even an arm-tackle on the SEC level. One good hit from a thumper running full speed down hill on kick coverage could literally kill him. It wouldnt be safe.

Bring in a special teams coach.

Usually, the special teams coach is assigned to help an area of need (often tight ends, but sometimes it is DL).

I think we should bring in a special teams genius and just assign him to help with the secondary.

Pruitt is going to be coaching 5 to 6 players who will be on the field on a given play. Give him another booming voice to help these kids with technique and assignments.

Tell that to the Honey bager or Holiday. It has to be an upgrade from McGowen and we don't have to worry about our Hiesman hopefuls getting injured.

Nice read Vox! I am glad to see we are making ST a priority again.
