BUZZ FROM THE CAPSTONE: JONATHAN TAYLOR’S FUTURE STILL NOT DECIDED & COACHING STAFF NEWS

Jonathan Taylor, who officially visited the Capstone on December 12th, is still awaiting word from UA

December 27th, 2014

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————

A final decision has not yet been made by the University of Alabama in regards to allowing Copiah-Lincoln Community College defensive lineman Jonathan Taylor to enroll at the Capstone. The 6-4 340-pounder officially visited Tuscaloosa on December 12th and had a really good visit according to sources. Alabama defensive line coach Bo Davis covets the massive DL, even over East Mississippi’s D.J. Jones who first committed to Florida State in July before flipping to Ole Miss. INTEL has heard from excellent sources that Taylor would be considered the best DL on the team the moment he signed…STRONG. The one sticking point is, of course, the well-documented incident that occurred this past summer involving the former Georgia Bulldog:

From Chip Towers of the Atlanta Journal Constitution on July 23rd 2014:

Jonathan Taylor, the sophomore defensive lineman who was arrested on Tuesday on an aggravated assault/family violence charge, was dismissed from the team Wednesday afternoon, just hours after being released from jail.

Taylor was released from Athens-Clarke County Jail on a $5,000 bond at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday. His McWhorter Hall residence on the UGA campus was being packed up by 1:30 p.m. and UGA issued a news release that Taylor had been kicked off the team at 2:47 p.m. There still has been no comment from Georgia coaches or administrators.

Taylor could not be reached for comment, but his high school coach spoke on his behalf.

“That kid is struggling right now,” said Chuck Conley, Taylor’s coach at Jenkins County High School. “He has obviously stubbed his toe. Let’s let the dust settle a bit, but that kid is distraught and tore up about everything. The track record doesn’t speak highly of him, but he’s not a bad person. He’s a good person. I trust him with my life.”

Taylor was placed into the custody of UGA Police at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday in response to a third-party complaint that he had physically assaulted his girlfriend during a domestic dispute at McWhorter Hall dormitory. Police said evidence and witness accounts indicate the 6-foot-4, 340-pound Taylor “choked” and “struck with a closed fist” his 5-11, 170-pound female victim.

It was Taylor’s second run-in with the law this year. In March, he was one of four Georgia football players arrested for theft by deception after they were caught double-cashing meal reimbursement checks. Taylor had received pretrial diversion treatment on those charges, was ordered to do community service and allowed to stay on the team without facing suspension. That matter will now be revisited in State Court.

————————————————————————————————————————————————————–

Taylor did not do himself any favors by being an hour late to the hearing in front of the committee at Alabama that will decide his fate in terms of enrolling at the Capstone. Yet this would still have to be considered a good sign that Taylor is VERY interested in UA since he agreed to return so quickly to Tuscaloosa to meet with the committee. Also, Nick Saban sent a not so subtle message through the media during his press conference to the media in regards to Taylor when asked about D.J. Pettway’s second chance at UA, which has gone EXCEPTIONALLY well:

The latest word is no final decision has been made by the committee, though with the above plea from Saban, INTEL believes Taylor will eventually be given the green light to enroll at the University to continue his career. Taylor would have three years to play two and would be considered a likely instant starter with senior Brandon Ivory departing and the likelihood that Jarran Reed continues to play at the high level seen since his breakout performance in Tuscaloosa vs. Florida, which would lead to early entry to the NFL. Like Reed has been in 2014, he would be considered instant impact, but with a different skill set…think Terrence “Mount” Cody the sequel…stay tuned as INTEL believes this will be resolved in less than two short weeks…RTR!

Note: Should he choose Alabama as most expect over LSU & MSU, Taylor will will backcount to the 2014 class

I can't get over the domestic violence arrest. I can overlook some things but not that. What I want doesn't really matter though.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want him dating my sister...but I want him commanding double teams next year.

I wish the young man the best going foward and I hope that he is able to get on the straight and narrow and be a success in life.

Just not at UA.

In short you wish him well, but don't want anything to do with the actual, helping, shaping and changing of this young man from a emotional kid to a man?

Gotcha.

What I don't like about it is the double standard for football players behavior as opposed to the average student. If he wasn't good at football, we wouldn't let him in the university so soon after him choking and punching his girlfriend. He was already on his second chance at uga for the check scandal.

He keeps gaining weight in these stories too. Two weeks ago he weighed 320, a week ago 330, and now Drew is saying 340.

How big is this kid really?

I mean, but double standards are life. That's like saying if Julio Jones wasn't good at catching footballs he'd be dressing a hamburger bun. Being born an athletic freak and working hard at it gets you opportunities you wouldn't normally get. Brings a lot of eyes and scrutiny too. It just is what it is.

If he comes to Bama and never fricks up, then I'll be happy we took him. Don't want EW back because he terrorized UA campus.

I'm not fond at all of him hitting women. But if he served whatever time the courts decided, then he has paid his debt to society. And going from Athens to a MS comm college is humbling.

With an 85 scholarship limit, there are a limited number of roster spots (i.e. opportunities). I personally would rather see that spot be used to give someone a first opportunity rather than a 2nd chance for someone who wasted his first opportunity (especially if it was a violent offense).

Harbaugh to Michigan.

I wonder if he will try to get Damien Harris to visit before his commitment ceremony next month. He was originally committed there.

Universities are supposed to be run differently. The primary concern of a university besides education is the safety of their students.

It also shows disrespect when he shows up an hour late for the meeting that decides his fate. Regardless of ride situation, I'd make damn sure I was at least an hour early. It seems flippant, like everyone else is going to bat for him while he does whatever he pleases.

I know its going to happen, and I am going to have to DWI, but that doesn't change my opinion on it.

I'm excited about Michigan getting Harbaugh. I love it when traditional powers are on top.

I don't think we'll lose many southern recruits to them, but Michigan/tOSU is gonna dominate northern/midwest recruiting.

Well there are double standards everywhere. If he wasn't good at football most people wouldn't give a shite about him or even any of our current players.

I've read your post and you seem to be a no-nonsense, "you screw up you're finished" type of guy.

I'm just not that type of guy. If I was thrown out of college for my growing up pains, I would have never gotten as far as I have today.

Thank God, the coaching staff and campus security I was around bet on me and not against me because it is convenient and players are like replaceable cattle to some.

To clear up I am not a supporter of enabling like Urben Meyer. There is a difference.

NEW ORLEANS -- Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart spoke to reporters early Sunday morning and answered a variety of questions about the Crimson Tide's defense, Ohio State's offense and his future.

Smart, who is in his eighth season at Alabama, has found his named linked to several head coaching vacancies in recent years but has not taken a job. He was asked if he gotten the itch to become a head football coach yet.

"Always," Smart said.

What's it going to take to lure him away for Tuscaloosa?

"The right job," Smart said.

But what's the right job?

"I don't know," Smart said. "I don't know what that is. That's a hard question. I just want to beat Ohio State right now and worry about the rest later."

When it comes to violent offenses, yes I am. A bar fight is one thing, but hitting a woman or jumping, beating, and robbing an unsuspecting student does not qualify as a "youthful indiscretion" in my book. If it were a case of public intox or pot or something like that, sure, give him a 2nd chance. But I think we should be sending the message that violent offenses are something that we as a university take very seriously.

@schadjoe: Buck Allen and Ameer Abdullah chatting at airport gate. Both recall Kirby Smart recruited them as DBs. Lane also recruited Ameer to USC.
