It's cliche and it's trite because it's true.

You have the choice of the #1 defense or the #1 offense you take the defense every single time.

Nothing is 100% but a great defense gets a team much farther than a great offense.

Look at every single championship teams offense and defensive rank and you'll find more often than not their defensive ranking is much better than their offensive one.

Big game I take defense, for an entire season I would take offense.

FSU had a good bit of both this year. Too bad their fans suck and are welchers.

If I didn't know better I would think that is Bama 92 defense in the Super Bowl

Feels like watching 2011 BCS National Championship. Denver = LSU Seattle = Bama

Seattle's defensive coordinator was the UF D coordinator last year.

Defense gives you the chance to win championships, your offense still has to go and do it.

Throughout its history, college football has always been a little bit of a beauty contest. Usually the team (or teams) that wins the title is great on offense and defense. Especially in a year when no one is undefeated, the top team is ranked very high on both sides of the ball. If everyone has a loss the "eye-test" will usually choose a team that is dominant on both sides.

LSU's 2011 team should have settled this debate once and for all...

Ridiculously good defense....

An anemic offense...

Undefeated regular season..

The other ridiculously good defense beat us in the Big Game...

Yep the offense doesn't even have to play. Just put the defense on the bus and go win the championship.

It's both

LINK /

I think we just believe that because teams with great defenses tend to have strong coaching and talent overall.

Michigan State probably had the best defense in CFB this year (coaching + talent) but I don't think they would have beaten FSU, just my opinion.

Defense wins championships more times than not. Look at AU in 2010. Defense won that game. There are several more examples through the years. There was a stat quoted during the Super Bowl about the lack of success by the highest ranked offenses. I need to look that up.
