Seeing all these "Fire Anderson" threads and seeing that nobody gives a shite about UGA basketball, which program is more attractive? Mark Fox has been with our program for 5 years now. Anyone want to guess how many winning records he has during his tenure in Athens?

Athens is a lot more fun, if that's where this is heading...

It SHOULD be Georgia with all the talent near by but it is Arkansas.

It's Georgia.

Arkansas has tradition on us for sure, no doubt about that. But the talent within an hour of Athens is staggering. Any coach that's an average recruiter and average coach could make the tourney every year. Fox is an average coach and lousy recruiter, Felton was an average recruiter and a lousy coach. Harrick was an average recruiter and an excellent coach, and he produced maybe one of our best teams ever.

We have proven that we will pay top dollar (we offered to double mike anderson's salary at the time to come here, which he turned down. We still made Fox the highest paid bball coach in UGA history if memory serves [I could be wrong though on that]). We have a marvelous school/campus/town to settle down in and raise a family in. Our arena just underwent major renovations, and we have a practice facility that was one of the tops in the nation when it was built, roughly 10ish? years ago.

UGA basketball is absolutely no different than Florida football. It's wallowed in mediocrity most of its existence, but all it takes is ONE guy to stay there for the long haul instead of 3 or 4 years and the thing will take off. We just haven't had that guy yet.

UGA just does not have a commitment to basketball like Arkansas does

Arky has better basketball fans and better history.

Neither is very attractive IMO. Just put both of them back to back and pick the tallest one. Just be careful not to elbow either in the head.

It only looks like that because we aren't winning. If we didn't have a commitment, we wouldn't have spent $30Million building a practice facility and upgrading the coliseum all in the past 5 years. We made an outrageous financial offer to one of the hottest coaches in the country, who turned us down. We are committed, we just aren't winning.

Arkansas undoubtedly has more "through thick and thin" type fans, but when UGA is good make no mistake the state gets behind them. Under Harrick we packed the place out. If you were at any of those UGA/UF games during that time I'm sure you'd agree. The problem is our fans just don't have much to be excited about, and people aren't going to drive from Atlanta on a Tuesday night to watch us lose. That's just how it goes. When we're winning, people show up in droves.

Athens is a great town and Georgia is a very good school but other than that Arkansas basketball blows UGA basketball away. Given their history I don't understand why Arkansas is in such a funk. Georgia SHOULD be better but people have been saying that for years. Outside of a single Final 4 appearance, Georgia has done squat historically. It gets WAY too much credit as a "great job" when in fact it has been a career grave yard for just about every coach who has coached there. I remember when Anthony Grant was a hot candidate at many schools and many suggested why Georgia would.be a great opportunity.for him while those that suggested Alabama was a better job were laughed at. CAG would have been just as ineffective at UGA as he has been at Alabama.

Btw, I'd also like to reiterate that the question in the OP is better basketball JOB...not which program is historically better.

-Both schools can offer pretty much any amount of money they want
-Neither school has an elite arena
-Both are in nice college towns
-Both have fans that will support the hell out of the program when it's going well

What pushes UGA over the edge, as far as a potential JOB is concerned, is the fact that we have a mind boggling amount of elite talent one hour down the road. Arkansas can't come close to matching that. In addition, and the same thing that makes UGA football such an attractive job, is that there is hella job security. Which as a fan isn't necessarily a good thing, but if I'm a coach looking at jobs it's sure as hell nice. We held on to felton waaaay too long for what he produced. We have held on to fox too long for what he has produced. A coach will KNOW that he's pretty much got 5 years to work regardless of what results he gets.

See my above post. As far as the job itself, it's a fantastic job. Just like my UF football analogy, nobody has stayed long enough to make it sustainable. Tubby is a pretty good coach, wouldn't ya say? Harrick is too. They didn't falter, they just left after a short time. If Tubby had stayed here 15 years the program would be night and day different.

Our biggest problem is that haven't found our spurrier yet.

It's Arkansas and it's not even close, you can argue all you want reality is Arkansas is the better basketball job and it's not close. And that's hard for me to say but there it is..

Program? Yes, of course. Job? No.

But it appears I'm alone on this side of the argument so I will quit while I'm behind. Anyways I'm off to church now, so adios.

I think tPalace on the Hill is pretty dang close to being considered an elite arena. If not for the building, then the fans of NWA that attend sure think they make it that way.

The old money down here in LR kinda sits back and laugh when they walk in with their goat cheese and oat crackers, being served on a Styrofoam tray. Reminds me a lot of tailgating at the Grove. Went to one OM tent with all of the candles, rayon table clothes, and chandeliers. Come to find out, dude was losing his house and was about to go completely broke. I said "Damn, didn't know welfare checks ever stopped".

Anyways, I'm off subject.

I disagree that BWA arena is not consider an elite arena.

I'm with Pigfeet. How is BWA not an elite arena?

Depends on your definition of elite. It's definitely one of the best in the conference. Is it elite nationally? Probably not
