Thursday morning breakfast we do at the Waffle House by Billy Brice once a month.

Typical conversation about wives, beer, cigars, football, etc.

We took up three tables this morning which kind of surprised me considering the weather - was glad I decided to go.

So we're talking about recruiting, conversation turns to Wideman because one of our guys is a former HS coach who is still connected to a ton of coaches around the state - and he's saying we've got a shot at Wideman but he's betting against us getting him. Said he (Wideman) would have to have a special flair for the dramatics to be telling some close to him what he is telling them and then, at the last second, change his mind for Carolina.

We can all hope I suppose. Because I've been saying for awhile that I thought our 2014 DLine would be excellent, better than 2013, but that was before realizing Quarrels was going to leave early ... that sort of changed things even though I love Green, Dixon, Dukes and Surratt up there. Wouldn't hurt to sign Wideman in the least and he would get immediately playing time, of course.

Then as I am about to take another bite of my egg white omelet, in walks this guy, this former player of ours who is now playing in the NFL at DT .... you know, the one that reminds us of John Henderson the great former UT DT. I mean how impressive is our guy looking these days huh?

At least that's what all of us were thinking ... had to be one of our former players, right?

Then, once he picks-up his to-go bag and leaves, we're all looking around at one another asking, "who the hell is that?" Especially me, I know all the former guys especially - first name basis, but I could not recall ever seeing this guy before. But one of our guys in the group still works around there, in there, let's say ... and he knows who this guy is, this NFLer come back to work-out at our facilities.

It was frickin' Lamin.

I am telling you he is a physical specimen. I was wearing an old Cleveland Pinckney sweatshirt this morning, one of the old black Russell Carolina football sweatshirts that Cleveland gave me years ago - still got his name scribbled on the back in indelible ink. Pinkey was da man. I'm still a big guy, 6-3 260 but overweight for my age even though my wife tells me I'm not, I've just always been big - 54 long jacket. Cleveland was big. But this sweatshirt wouldn't have gone over Lamin's head. Lamin's shoulder's looked ... I mean he looked like a bull. If this guy can play anything like he looks then look out because he looks NFL ready right now. I'm talking full grown man that looks and walks like a bull - no fat on this kid. Physical specimen.

Right on. Lamin is a big dude, all his bio's have him 300+ and he has had 3 years since HS to develop. He went to a Prep Academy out of HS, then he went JUCO but didn't play his 1st year, so he technically has 3 to play 3.

I think he fills in for Quarles right away. Maybe a little bigger and slower than Quarles but I think Lamin definitely locks up a starting DT spot, especially since he'll get to go through spring practice

Was told this morning that his 40 time is already a tenth of a second faster than Kelcey's was.

I agree though, Spring Practice is going to help him work toward contributing this coming fall - it always does.

Beginning to hear about Lamin's attributes - evidently he has a ton of upside. "... or else we wouldn't have wasted a scholarship on a JuCo transfer."

Would he fall in blue chip or blue collar category?

That's a good question. I suspect Blue Chip given his ranking coming out of JuCo - because I don't remember him coming out of high school.

But it would be great if he turned into a blue collar hard working guy as well with a blue collar work ethic and blue chipper skills and body.

I remember a kid out of Columbia not all that long ago who signed with Georgia, a DT, Richard something maybe? Lower Richland - crap my memory is failing me on names lately. But I remember seeing that kid play his senior year in high school and thinking that is the hardest working kid for a kid his size and with his skills ... most kids that were that dominant would have just floated through their senior seasons, but not that kid. What the heck was his name? Anyways, he was both. He was blue chip and blue collar, the most coveted type of player there is to be had by college coaches.

Yeah, well, whatever.

Mizzerites have their issues.

I posted a link to an interview with their AD last night regarding what has become a trend at their university ... three rapes in three years by athletes, the last one leading to a suicide.

They don't like that I posted the link to the article in today's Columbia, Missouri newspaper.

SCRooster, I was thinking about it, but you could also do it. CNB questioned how many of them said similar things to what you wrote about Winston and FSU. A bet a post search would make a lot of Mizz posters very pissed off and look very foolish.
