I know some teams take it as god's word and other takes it as Billy's shite.

So teams like USC do not have great recruiting rankings (1-10) but Spurrier does great with developing talent.

But Most Alabama fans I know take it as the holy word.

Personally how do you view recruiting rankings?

Means zero to SCAR in football IMHO.

Basketball is another story because you can completely change a team with one class in basketball.

Hard to argue with the level of athletes alabama is able to put on the field.

When 5 star guys sit the bench on a regular basis...

Rankings don't mean everything, but you do have a statistical advantage. I believe coaching is vastly more important. Knowing how to take a guy that comes in as one position and knowing how to turn them into something else. Knowing what a kid could be just by watching tape of HS.

Coaches are the key. Recruiting follows second.

Not a lot, but I'm sure there is at least some level of correlation. We've had higher final AP/Coaches Ranking than our avg recruiting ranking for the past 4 years.

Our coaches do a really good job of developing talent. We've had about a dozen 2Star guys over the past 12 years that were drafted into the NFL. We've also done a really good job with out top level talent. Clowney, Gilmore, and Alshon could have played anywhere, and were drafted early.

Mizzou fans care greatly but in reality it means very little for Mizzou since Pinkel's staff normally recruits guys other schools haven't even evaluated let alone the recruiting services.

Generally, not much. But with all the shite that Tennessee has been through in the last few years, I feel like finishing with a high ranking would have some added significance. At the very least, it would help the morale of this beaten down fanbase.

They are usually very inaccurate for Arkansas.

We don't get the attention from recruiting service because we don't have the intense rival that drives up subscriptions and a small in-state talent base.

I would say they were accurate, maybe if you could break the top 20 in recruiting you could win an SEC game.

Fact:

No team has ever won a NC in the BCS era without at least one top 10 recruiting class.

So, pretty fricking important.

What came first the chicken or the egg?

The more fans who buy subscriptions the more stars your recruits get. The more stars your recruits get get the more fans will subscribe

Uuuhhhhh to me rankings don't even matter as long as you fill needs and get guys that fit the O or D schemes, it just so happens Bama signs so many highly ranked guys each class that the are always gonna be up there

I would say they're very accurate for Arkansas. Arkansas ranks near the bottom of the SEC West in recruiting every year and has zero SEC Championships.

It's the 1st and most important ingredient in the developement of a national powerhouse program. Sure, there are the occasional yearly exceptions, but over an extended period of time, the top programs have the top recruiting classes. As the saying goes,"you can't make chicken salad out of chicken shite".

On a micro level its negotiable, but on a large scale it's very important. Coaching is still very important bc your team will turn into 2011/2012 Auburn Tigers.

If you are ranked high, they are very accurate and important.

If you are ranked low, they are meaningless guesswork.

Let's not confuse recruiting rankings with the level of talent on a given roster.

Recruiting rankings are determined by questionable people with zero coaching experience.

I'll take what Spurrier and his staff determine they need, go-after and sign, over what some dumbass like Bobby Burton says, any day of the week.

Here's a fact.

Most recruiting services rank a player based upon three criterion.

1 - Who all has offered.
2 - Speed
3 - Size

... in that order.

Where as most good coaches, and their staffs, rank their prospects as follows:

1 - position need
2 - specific skill set, camp evaluation, interview
3 - work ethic and reputation, on-and-off the field, in and out of the classroom (sic: weight room, extra curricular, etc).
4 - size and speed
5 - locality in relation to the school
6 - word of the local high school coaches
7 - collective judgement of assistant coaches
8 - family history/background

I'd probably agree in regard to the ranking only. However imo, evaluating talent and determining if/where a kid will fit into your scheme is first and most important to the process that any coach undertakes when fielding a team.

In my opinion, the difference between a number 1 class and a number 10 class isn't that much but you start getting into the teens and twenties I don't see how you can compete on a regular basis.

SCAR has a good redshirt program in place, correct?

Rankings wise, numbers effect them tremendously, we've had two top 10 classes, both were classes of large numbers, both only had one or two in each class who were major prospects.

Our class last year of two players was a better class than the previous top 10/5 class, last year's class had two players, that previous class had 5, only two were good prospects, the rest failed to qualify or transferred out in search of playing time.
