Northwestern's football players have submitted signed union cards for players wishing to be recognized by the NLRB. Basically they are doing so to try to classify themselves and all college athletes as employees of the university.
Is this is the beginning of the end of college athletics as we know it?
Which SEC team's football players will be the most likely to follow suit? Are all the SEC states Right To Work States, or are there Union/Liberal SEC states that allow Unions to have a CBA and stranglehold a job/position?

SC is a RIght To Work State. So the players could all sign cards, but new players would not be forced to join and pay for the union, so it's not likely that a union would invest the money to flip SC athletes to pro union.

This is retarted
But knowing Illinois and how union-heavy the state is, expect for the usual suspects like the SEIU and such to swoop in and assist them.
Union membership is declining nationwide, the big unions will definitely aid the college athletes here, think of all the new membership(aka due payers) they can get.
As a former college football player... if you think you are being exploited and enslaved, you are selfish. I wasn't even on scholarship and still had to do all the same shite the scholarship players had to do day in and day out. Now that I have graduated and am having to pay back student debt, I don't think they understand the true value of a free ride, especially to a school like Northwestern.

If I was the coach I would inform the players that Northwestern offers intramural football but it does not provide scholarships.
ETA: Will the collective bargain for practice schedules and playing time?

1. You mean the end of a free training system for the NFL.
2. You mean the end of students not being allowed to work or earn an income so they can legally prosper enough to have sometime type of income, like the rest of us.
I hope it is the end, it has been unfair and it is no wonder all the crap goes on under the table, what damn choice do they have. Try to remember what it was like for you to take someone on a date and pay for it. What do these guys do now, how do they drive somewhere if they do not come with money and most don't.
I wish them well.
