quote:

For most of us, measles and whooping cough are diseases of the past. You get a few shots as a kid and then hardly think about them again.

But that's not the case in all parts of the world — not even parts of the U.S.

As an interactive map from the Council on Foreign Relations illustrates, several diseases that are easily prevented with vaccines have made a comeback in the past few years. Their resurgence coincides with changes in perceptions about vaccine safety.

I would still hate screw Jenny McCarthy despite her perversion she's spread.

I'm a little ashamed but not a lot.

My kids are vaccinated, and I think it's irresponsible to others to not vaccinate due to some being immunosuppressed, and being more susceptible to disease.

Also, did you know bordetella pertussis (whooping cough), and bordetella bronchiseptica (one of the pathogens in kennel cough in dogs) are very closely related?

A lot of diseases are like this.

Smallpox is believed to have derived from cowpox, for example. The black plague was spread by rats. Swine flu, bird flu, etc.

HIV/Aids came from a species of chimpanzee in West Africa. It is speculated human's contracted it from hunting and eating the animal.

I'm a firm believer in that in a perfect world, unless your child has a medical exemption for vaccinations, then if you choose to not vaccinate your child/children you should have to home school them.

The sad thing is for the unfortunate kid who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons, those who choose to not do so out of ignorance are effectively eliminating herd immunity that protects those individuals. So not only are you putting your own kid at risk, but you're also putting others at risk too.

And parainfluenza in dogs is like the croup in humans.

Yes I'm aware.

I can tell you're still in the veterinary pharma sales business. Don't happen to work for Zoetis do you? Or would you rather not say?

I will never understand why people do not vaccinate their kids. Seems like a form of child abuse to me.

I'm immunization certified as of last week. Who needs a flu shot?
