With Shaka Smart's move to Texas, Tevin Mack is probably back in play for us. However I don't think he'll come here, we'll see how it plays out.

Here's some of the info on Mack.

Mack chose VCU b/c of Shaka Smart. Mack was all VCU and had VCU all over his social media. Last night, he got rid of all that VCU stuff and started telling people that he wasn't committed to VCU anymore.

Mack did sign a LOI for VCU in the early signing period. VCU can release him from that LOI, but they don't have to. It is Mack's right to just not go to VCU this year if they don't give him a release, he would have to sit out a year, but then could play anywhere next year.

UConn was #2 behind VCU when he was making his decision. UConn is only graduating 1 player this year, and I don't think they have any early NBA departures.

UConn took 2 commitments this year, both highly rated, but neither was a SF like Mack. They will probably have to cut 1 guy at least from their roster already, if they bring in Mack, they'll have to cut 1 more.

SC is kinda in the same attrition boat, but we have Sheppard who is a SF on the chopping block already. If Sheppard is leaving b/c of that suspension he got, I could see us push for Mack.

One thing that could be total conjecture, and that I heard 2nd hand so I don't know how factual it is, is that Mack wasn't high on playing with Dozier, b/c Dozier is the "super star" and Mack didn't want to be his Pippen. Again, I don't know that as fact, that's just a rumor I heard.

I think Mack is >>>> Sheppard. If we somehow get Mack to SC this class (assuming VCU releases him from the LOI,) this would be the greatest recruiting class for SC in 20 years. Mack is a shooter and can put up a lot of points, he needs to work on his defensive skills, but our teams biggest need right now is shooting and he could help.

Some news on Tevin Mack from Jamie Shaw (Phenom Hoop Report)

quote:

Done some digging speaking with some sources here, UConn thinks that it is a Tex/SCar battle

Texas has 2 SGs already in this class, Kerwin Roach & Eric Davis (Both Top 75 Types). They have room, little depth, and lead recruiter Mike Morrell is joining Shaka in Texas.

UGa is still a dark horse. If you remember, friends all showed up to the pressed in UGa gear. Brother played for Mark Fox at Nevada and has stayed in touch.

The SCar staff felt good about Mack the 1st time around. They were a little surprised at how it turned out. However, the bridge has not been burned and the staff will welcome Tevin with open arms.

There are some people around Tevin want to see him get away from Columbia. We'll see who is making this decision, the second time around.

I tend to agree with the UConn staff here

Perry Dozier Jr. was named the MVP of the USA vs. Florida All Star game.

12 points, 7 boards, 5 assists.

Can't wait to see him in a Gamecock Uniform.

FTR it's 3* SG Gregory for others that may have thought the same.

Gamecocks also offered a 2016 PF today:

South Carolina has extended a scholarship offer to 6-foot-9, 225-pound Class of 2016 power forward Sedee Keita of 22 Feet Academy in Greenville, S.C.

Keita is ranked No. 122 nationally in the 2016 class per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Andrew Rowsey from UNC Asheville is looking to transfer, Carolina has reached out to the 5-foot-11 guard. If you remember he's the guy that put up 30 on us during our game against UNCA last year. Guy is a legit shooter.

Connor Clifford has named his final 2: Washington State and Utah.

quote:

I have not spoken with Clifford personally but in texting with his coach, I get the feeling that distance ended up being a heavy factor in his decision.

Understandable.

------------------

Carolina has offered 3* PF Eric Cobb who was originally a Kansas State commit but decommitted yesterday.

quote:

He is a large guy, but has great foot work and touch, both with his back to the basket & facing out to the arc.

247 reporting that it is not a matter of IF 5*/4* Seventh Woods commits to SC, it's a matter of WHEN!!!

Frank Martin and the coaches had a meeting with him and his family on Tuesday. His family is rallying to SC's corner.

Rumors started popping up that it could happen this week. His camp is thinking of doing it before AAU starts, so he can focus on that and not worry about scouting. Then there's another faction that wants him to take some OV's and see some schools/get some free trips.

For SC, it would behoove us to get an early commit so we can use his commitment to attract other great players. I don't know if Martin allows commits to take OV's. If he does, it's not a bid deal, he can still get some free trips.

Some 2016 info:

quote:

Aric Holman, the star of the Kentucky Sweet 16, has been planning to attend prep school next season at Hargrave Military. But the skilled 6-9 forward from Owensboro will make an official visit to South Carolina next week and is considering going to college in the fall.

“The only school I have set up is South Carolina. I’m going to visit them next week Tuesday through Thursday.”

Holman, who has visited Louisville multiple times, also said Texas, Xavier, Cincinnati and Auburn are recruiting him to play next season at their schools.

"Not really," Woods said when asked if was close to making a decision, "I'm going to play it out and wait till I feel the time is right."

Class of 2015 recruits Aric Holman and Eric Cobb plan to visit South Carolina officially this week. Their recruitments are not an either/or scenario and the coaching staff is prepared to take both players if both wanted to commit and sign with the Gamecocks. Holman, as it stands today, wants to sign with a Division I school now versus going to prep school.
