Questions about WR recruiting and development at Bama

Julio Jones is the only 1st rd. draft pick at WR since Saban has been at Bama. I'm sure we will all agree he was a "can't miss" prospect that would be where he is today had he gone to UAB.
I'm not aware of any other draft picks in this period.
Are they being improperly evaluated?
Are they being developed properly?
Will Lane Kiffin reverse this trend?
The roster is loaded with four and five star recruits that came in with dreams of being the next Julio. It'll be interesting to see if Lane can help these guys reach their potential.

That's probably because the talent is all still playing.
Norwood should be drafted. Kenny Bell might get a look somewhere, but I don't know if he makes a team.
The next year, White, Cooper, and Jones will all likely be drafted.

Well Julio is the only top receiver prospect to enter the draft. The top kids we've gotten are still on the team. When they declare they will be highly valued (Amauri Cooper, Chris Black, Robert Foster, etc).

Nick had his first recruiting class in 2007. There have been many highly sought after WRs in this time that have gone undrafted. Kenny Bell and Kevin Norwood were both four start recruits who have prototypical size and speed. Neither will be drafted on the first day, if at all.

LOL, do you know how many 4* receivers there are in each class? Neither were 5* or prototypical types, neither were expected to be first rounders, hell even second rounders.

Amari Cooper will be highly drafted.

I understand what you are trying to do with this thread, but your execution is lacking.

I'm just trying to understand why Bama has only 1 draft pick since Saban has been there.
We are currently competing for Malachi Dupre. I ask a few simple questions that I doubt will be answered with a substantive post though. What's lacking in my execution all knowing one?

Has LSU under Miles had a WR drafted higher than Julio?

This is clearly a thread to flame Alabama. Your post history explains it all. 95%+ of your posts are flaming current and former Alabama players.

I remember that QB they had picked number one....

The forward pass is a cowardly, immoral play.

Looking at it year-by-year:
07 - Brandon Gibson was our highest rated WR recruit. He barely saw the field in his career.
08 - Unless you count B.J. Scott, who most viewed as a DB coming out, Julio was our only WR in this class
09 - We took four receivers and the lowest rated ended up having the best career. Kendall Kelly was placed on medical hardship IIRC and Michael Bowman eventually transferred after moving to TE. Bell has been decent for us and Norwood has a shot at being drafted.
10 - Two recruits at WR this year, DeAndrew White and Keiwone Malone. White almost left for the draft and would've likely been a fourth or fifth round pick. Malone was suspended and transferred after a redshirt year.
Keenan Allen was committed to us for a while before flipping to Cal. He was a third round pick and had a great rookie year. He may've ended up on defense for us though.
11 - Another large WR class; six this time. Shinn and Woodson sparingly saw the field and transferred. Sylve ended up at CB. Carswell was suspended, IIRC, and transferred. Jones, the only one still at WR for us, looks like he could be drafted. Duron Carter...
Shinn was highly rated and some called him the "next Julio." Obviously that didn't work out. He did see a good bit of PT with our injuries at WR in '12 so some were confused when he transferred.
12 - Another large WR class if you count the two-way guys. Cooper looked like a sure-fire top ten pick his freshman year but injuries and a case of the drops resulted in a sophomore slump. Black has been stuck on the sideline for the most part but has impressed when given opportunity. I suppose the coaching staff hasn't trusted him with things besides pass-catching. Cyrus Jones started at WR before moving to CB. Eddie Williams is a dumbass.
13 - Foster (who Gary Danielson singled out unprovoked as a special talent after seeing him in practice) and Stewart (might move to safety) redshirted. Falkins played sparingly.
In summary up until the last couple of years we missed on most of our top WR targets (Allen being the most obvious example). No one wanted to play WR for Alabama before Julio apparently. Development doesn't seem to be an issue as in more than one case lower rated guys have out-performed the high rated guys.

This is correct.

Because there have been none.

Are they being improperly evaluated?
Nope. All the talented guys we had are still here other than Norwood, who had a great week at the Senior Bowl and is starting to be considered a late round steal.
quote:
Are they being developed properly?
Cooper/Norwood are great route runners, but White has shite tons of talent and has never really developed as a route runner, so I don't know.

Will Lane Kiffin reverse this trend?
I tend to think so.

If he can help White reach his potential along with Coop, then that'll be big. Coop will probably end up as a first round pick, White is so up in the air. He has the talent to shoot up with a big year, but if he has another "ok" year, he'll be a late round pick off of talent alone.

Bell won't come close to being drafted, but Norwood may go as high as the fifth. He's a perfect possession WR that will be a better pro than college player.

I think he was trying to say Black and Foster were highly talented guys coming out of HS, but he didn't say it the way he wanted to.

Yes sir,the bust from Mobile Al.,oddly enough.
He would be an example of a properly evaluated and developed talent.
He had a very productive career at LSU and was the 1st player chosen in the 2007 draft.
He was drafted higher and signed for more money than all the other QBs from the state of Alabama, EVER!
Let that marinate in your mind BUBBA!
