Looks like it is going to count against the 25. At least there is conflicting information out there.

What position does everyone think Ganus plays? He will need to add a bit of weight to play ILB or he could slim down and play safety possibly. Apparently he was originally a safety at UAB and converted to ILB.

Definitely ILB. He's big enough

I think he stays at ILB. Only has a season left unless redshirted and we need depth at ILB. Besides, Amarlo is listed as 231 so Ganus isn't that much lighter.

Because he's white? This kid has proven he can play at least a little bit at a D1 level. 6 sacks for an ILB is pretty impressive.

We're a little thin depth-wise, but I personally like the two guys we have penciled in to start. After Carter and Kimbrough, things are little dicey, but hopefully McCrae and Roquan Smith along with Natrez Patrick (who can and probably will get time at all 4 LB spots) will come in ready to bust some heads.

We're fine with TK and RC. We really could use O'neal stepping up, though. His high school footage kind of reminded me of Rennie Curran.

Him being white has nothing to do with it.

Then the where does the comparison start?

Jake Ganus is a 3 year starter at LB and was 2nd Team all conference last year. He also played safety before moving to backer.

Chase Vasser barely sniffs the field.

Anyone hear how Detric Dukes' redshirt season went?

Would be nice if he came in and provided some quality depth at ILB.

Dukes was moved to FB and then back to ILB. I think the plan is for him to stay there

First, Vasser didn't play much because he got himself suspended his last year. Secondly, his stats doesn't paint the picture of his on field play. If he getting 75 tackles 10 yards down the field, that doesn't help us much. Im glad we signed another body at ILB but we need studs at that position imo, this kid doesn't have stud written on him.

I don't see how this kid reminds you of Vasser then. If anything that should remind you of Ramik or Amarlo in some games where we were making a bunch of tackles way downfield. The kid might not have stud written on him, but he doesn't have walk-on written on him either. The comparison was because they are both white and we both know it, but it's not a big deal. I'm just happy we got more iLB depth and another kid from UAB gets the chance to play more football.

Why not? Both are athletic and they don't shy away from contact

Herrara and Wilson both underachieved last year IMO...we'll be fine at ILB once the new guys get a few games under their belts.
