Interesting Facts about Your Coach's Tenure

Gus Malzahn, 2013-Present

Gus is averaging 12 wins per season as head coach of the Auburn Tigers.

Malzahn's first Auburn team won the only rushing title in the history of the SEC, and the first in over a decade to be won by a non-option-dedicated attack. The 2013 Tigers amassed 4596 rushing yards, averaging 328.3 yards per game.

Other facts about the 2013 Malzahn rushing offense:
- Auburn was the only team of the 2013 season to have multiple games with over 500 rushing yards (Western Carolina, Missouri).
- Auburn was the only team to have 4 players rush for over 500 yards for the season (Tre Mason, Nick Marshall, Cameron Artis-Payne, Corey Grant).

With Gus Malzahn winning the 2013 season's Paul "Bear" Bryant Coach of the Year Award, he becomes the 4th straight Auburn coach (Bowden '93, Tuberville '04, Chizik '10) to win the award named after the longtime Alabama coaching legend. Penn State is the only other school to have won the award multiple times since its inception in 1986.

Malzahn is only the third coach to win the SEC championship in his first year at a school (Bernie Moore - LSU '35, Johnny Vaught - Ole Miss '47) and the only coach to do so by winning the SEC Championship game.

Huge lists of Gamecock 1sts accomplished under Spurrier.

Also Spurrier has only lost the first game of the season once in his career, his only loss? To South Carolina while he was at Duke.

That didn't "debut" in a sense until game 5.

The only active coach smart enough to clap in a manner that proactively prevents finger injury.

Right. It's hore shite for them to act like they're putting up these gaudy numbers with a pro-style offense.

Also, didn't see this in the OP...Gus was the first coach to lose a national championship game to a team from outside of the SEC.

No. He was the first coach to lead an SEC team to a BCSCG loss against a non-SEC team.

USC lost to a non-SEC team in 2005, for example.

Which is precisely when the rushing numbers started to become gaudy.

That's obviously what I meant. Clearly, other coaches have lost NCGs...almost as many as have won them.

Nick Saban has more national championships than conference championships at Bama.
