Snippet:

quote:

But to win a national title, a program must first be able to bring on more blue-chip talent than it brings on average players. That sounds simple. And it's incredibly hard.

Team Blue-chip percentage
USC* 77%
Texas 70%
Alabama 68%
Florida 64%
Ohio State 57%
LSU 55%
Notre Dame 54%
Auburn 54%
Florida State 53%
Georgia 48%
UCLA 47%
Oregon 47%
Oklahoma 46%
Tennessee 43%
Michigan 41%
Clemson 40%
Texas A&M 35%

A&M's last three classes have been right at 50% of commits being 4 star or higher (on rivals), and there's getting to be more and more of them every year.

I've also heard, years ago, that only around half of the teams in the top 25 in recruiting end up in the top 25 in rankings. Not sure if its still true.

No team has won the National Championship without multiple Top Ten recruiting classes leading up to their National Title.

Alabama has had the #1 Recruiting Class in the Nation 6 out of the last 7 years. Alabama has had, by far, the best program in the country since 2008.

Only 3 teams in the country had Top Ten recruiting classes 4 years in a row leading up to this season: Florida State, Auburn, and Alabama. 2/3 played in the National Title game.

Since 2000, the Top 5 Teams in Recruiting in the SEC are the only 5 teams to win the SEC Title (Bama, FL, LSU, Auburn, and Georgia). These 5 programs have all been, by far, the Top 5 programs, overall, in the SEC since 2000.

It's all about recruiting. If you don't recruit top ranked classes you don't win consistently.

It takes a combo of recruiting consistency and coaching consistency IMHO...

In the SEC, I agree. In other conferences, I don't feel like it is quite as important as having the top talent.

Can't be true. I've heard all month that recruiting doesn't matter. Of course that was in the context of A&M's recruiting class but that can't make a difference.

I think the bigger point is consistency which I don't think A&M has done as well as those they're trying to pass.

Wow, this is not really a difficult correlation to understand. SEC teams have littered the top 20 in recruiting classes over the past decade and the outcome? The SEC has dominated in the polls, in BCS bowl games and other bowl games and in BCS Championships that have been brought back to the SEC. It is real simple, you recruit well and you have a huge part of the recipe for success completed.

Who says A&M has recruited consistently well over the last 4 or 5 years? Nobody, so far as I know. For a decade or more, we had mostly medicore classes, with the occasional top 15 or so.

Three years ago, it started to turn. Two years ago was a pretty dang good class. This year is turning into an elite, top 5 class. If we can keep this up for a couple more years, we will have the kind of talent necessary to give you a legit chance to win the NC.

I think California prospects are slightly overrated.

Not even slightly. All the sushi and veggie burgers have made them soft.

They aren't overrated at all. Cali pretty much fuels the entire Pac-12. If anything it is slightly underrated considering the Pac-12 overall success.

I knew there was a correlation but I did not know it was that strong.

Very interesting facts so far.
