I did not see that coming. I figured Florida would have been in the top 5.

Commissions?

Most coaches have a commissions clause in their contracts with apparel companies, shoe companies, equipment companies, and even their TV show deals, that pay them based upon ratings or merchandise sales above and beyond their guaranteed salaries from the schools.

Eta: The bonuses are also paid similarly based upon certain goals being achieved.

Florida and Georgia are traditionally more stingy than their peers. UGA is only starting to pay more for their staff.

A lot of other fans sometimes seem to think we're kidding when we say that, for some reason. This is further example of that

But doesn't UGA not have certain staff positions like a full S&C staff and a Special Teams Coach? there's at least half a mill saved right there

We don't have a ST coach because we use up our assistant coach allotment at other positions. We are way understaffed in the S&C and football support staffs compared to AU, UA, and UT. Not sure about LSU. We're about on par with UF in those departments.

LSU also gives back over 7 million to the school and academic programs.

We will be in the top 10 when the dust settles this year. We were allocating an extra $500k before the most recent development with our OC leaving -- a number that is very likely to go up now.

Alabama's number is skewed. They have as many assistants as players.

I've never been so happy to lose an OC in my life

Ouch, damn, and that's just the assistants - not counting BB's money. It'd be more like two million per win if you count BB's money.
