I'm really excited about this DC opening. Wish they would make a hire so we could speculate and get excited about next season.

Yeah -- I'm using the DC search as a measuring stick for how a potential basketball search would go.

We have money to basically take a back seat to no one now. How will we use it, or will Strick pull a Dave Ramsey and try to payoff the stadium more quickly?

It's looking more and more like Randy Shannon. I've saw that Mullen is going to interview someone at the bowl game in Miami and they will probably make the trip back to Starkville with him. He's from Miami, seems likely that's who we are going after.

Shannon would be a good hire.

Good recruiter. Hell...not even that bad of a head coach really.

I didn't realize how much he cleaned up Miami. They only had one arrest in 4 years under him.

I disagree on cleveland. He is not physically strong enough. He gets thrown around and misses tackles. I hate him being on the field.

Part of our safety problem is personnel and part is scheme. I've never seen so many one on one coverages with safeties against the opposing WRs as we run. That's a lot to ask of that position and would be tough to handle with really good coverage safeties and ours are average at best. Now its anybody's guess how much direct input Mullen has in defensive scheming. Hopefully very little since, as far as I know, he's never had any experience coaching defense.

Isn't Shannon at Arkansas? I'm not saying it isn't possible but he'll be coaching in a bowl game on Dec. 30th and the game doesn't start until 8 that night. Seems unlikely he is in Miami doing an interview on the 31st.

Mullen wouldn't be doing any interviewing until after the game. Seems reasonable that, two-three days after his season is over, Shannon could be in Miami.

That's the problem with the constant non-disguised soft zone we ran. Matchups are exploitable when you don't use the multiple nature of our personnel any better than we did this year. AND that was with Wells covering our arse.

Also why I want to run the Patterson 4-2-5. Called in "hurry up" D on playcards. Front 4 called separate from back 7, back 7 split down the middle with each side called separately. Lets you play man on one side and zone on the other, etc. Naturally disguises everything because it's literally all called separately.

Read up on it -- it's a really interesting read... I already know Wommack runs a 4-2-5 primarily and that Freeze is planning to study Patterson's D this offseason. I think alot of people are going to go to some variation of that to slow the spread.

Which, Shannon's year under Patterson is another reason I want him...

Just got a CB for 2015 Not Rated OT Michael Story of Ripley. He is 6'4" 265. I think I can speak for most of us when I say: holy mother of diamonds.

This is the type of risk I like taking on a recruit, has the frame but Ripely probably doesn't have a real weight program. With that build he will only improve.

ETA: Apparently he has had a big senior season and is up to 300 lbs now.

Kentavious Thomas decommited. I'm assuming he was asked to grey shirt. Good news for those of you worried about us taking so many RB's

He wasn't asked to Greyshirt at all.

The kid said that Hevesy or Knox haven't talked to him at all. Knox came to his school a while back but had no in home visit.

Like they just gave him the silent treatment.

ETA: Why the frick would we do this to Thomas instead of Murphy? Thomas was most likely going to be sign and place but still worth it...

I really think Murphy is the surprise of this class. Could be wrong but he has the potential to be a really good back. Smart, well spoken kid too, I think it would be a mistake to leave him out.

Murphy should have never been allowed to commit and should have been dropped when he stole those shoes from Walmart.

I forgot about that. Still a strange arse turn of events that happened. I've met him and he is literally the last person associated with our football team that I would have expected it from. I think people are really going to be glad we took him when he gets on campus.

Then again, he was having to support his family and it was a 30 dollar pair of shoes. Made a bad decision, I feel like he would have stolen a nicer pair if he was just trying to be an a-hole.

It was the equivalent of stealing a CD, which half this damn board has done. Hell, most of us have pirated 10 times that much in movies and music.
