It would certainly weaken Bama's staff considerably, unless they went out and aquired Jeremy Pruitt... but at the same time, strengthen UGA's biggest weakness over the last several years. Kirby is also a lights out recruiter in the state of GA.

My initial reaction is it would be marginally good for Auburn b/c Bama is in the West. What say you?

eta: he hasn't accepted the job yet... just speculation.

It's a bad thing IMO.. Saban will almost always have a stellar D, regardless of coordinator. Saban has groomed Smart, so I expect UGA's D to also be very good. Overall, the playing field for AU just gets harder.

Bad.. Bama d is going to be good no matter what.

UGA will be tougher to beat if they start playing d.

I don't want Smart there, but at the same time, I don't want UGA to switch to the 4-3 because we're reeling a lot of defensive talent from Georgia right now because they don't fit their system

Yeah, that's about the only positive I see about Smart to UGA.

No one knows how Smart will be as a coach. That is Saban's D. Really similar to Tubs, DC's would leave AU under Tubs, and not really produce. Smart to UGA could be good for them, or he could be a Chizik.

Smart is a good hire for UGA but until he proves something out from under Saban's shadow I'm not gonna be worried about where he goes. I do think his leaving will have virtually no effect on Alabama though.

This. It can only help UGA, so I hope he stays at UA.

I don't think it matters one way or another. His D's have struggled against Gus. I would just as soon have two schools that need to learn how to D it up.

Let's be real, does FSU really care if he is gone? They're so much more talented than the rest of the ACC it doesn't matter. You can plug and chug with another DC there.

Pruitt can do damage at UGA.

FSU has some real issues as far as coach retention... they lost several guys to freaking Kentucky this past year, Eddie Gran left after 2012, and obviously Craig came to Auburn...

It's just not sustainable, no matter what your talent is... Winston will likely mask a lot of issues next year, but they could be hurting in 2015 and beyond. I mean randy sanders in their OC... Dude's terrible.

AU offense vs Grantham @ UGa, prior to 'Hail Aubie':
83 snaps (57 rush, 26 pass)
493 net yards (323 rush, 170 pass)
5.9 yards per snap
37 points (4 TDs, 4 PATs, 3 FGs)

AU offense vs Pruitt @ FSU
80 snaps (53 rush, 27 pass)
449 net yards (232 rush, 217 pass)
5.6 yards per snap
31 points (4 TDs, 4 PATs, 1 FG)

Considering the overall gap in talent between the two teams, I'm not all that impressed with Pruitt's performance.

My thoughts exactly, no need to match his salary when they can get someone for half the cost and do the exact same thing.

Why are we scared of him? We just played a C game offensively and put up 31 points with the most talented D he'll ever have with a month to prepare.

I'm not saying he can't be good but what has he done so far other than have a stacked D against terrible opposition?

FSU doesn't pay that well. Anyways, Pruitt to UGA should help Auburn maintain our reach in Georgia.

There aren't many that can recruit on Pruitt's level. There is definitely a "loss" for FSU.
