I'm glad he's leaving but Louisville is not a lateral move (as indicated in the AJC. I hope there was an offer on the table to Smart before this transpired.

It was either that...which we all want...or he wanted to get the frick out of UGA because of the same stuff we all bitch about.

It does seem odd though because working for Petrino in Louisville does seem a little shady.

I get the idea that Richt and or McGarity helped ease his mind as to whether or not he should take the opportunity

I don't care if there was an offer to smart before Grantham left, I'm just glad our defense won't be looking at each other as another 99 yard touchdown pass happens.

All indicatins are that Grantham was kindly asked to start looking around and that UGA has been working on finding a replacement since last week. Could explain why so many insiders and paysite guys are suggesting that Kirby is a very real possibility.

Could also explain why Lakatos suddenly resigned for "personal reasons"

Was thinking this as well. Seems like McGarity did this with Perno as well.

They had to figure that being some of the architects of their school's worst-ever defense probably dimmed their stars at least a little, even at UGA.

Well, all the Grantham haters got their wish. When 6 DCs get raises to stay at their schools and Richt hires another Grantham or a failed DC I hope the haters are happy.
I am a Dawg forever, but this coaching crap has me not caring one way or the other. If I still lived in Atlanta I'd buy season baseball tix and drop my football tix.

With the players we had on D last season, we should have had the #1 D in the country. When a coach gets paid what Grantham does, and produces the results that he has, it's time for a school like UGA to look elsewhere. He will fail miserably at Louisville.

Kinda like having Stafford, AJ and Moreno on the same team ... seems like a trend under CMR.

This is such a shitty argument. Our offensive line was dogshit while they were all playing together and didn't have a defense worth a shite. Stafford has never really proven himself to be one of those qbs that wills his team to victory.

It's the head coach's job to make sure the right kids are recruited and the other coaches do their jobs well. Richt put Martinez in that position so...yeah Richt gets the blame.

Stafford's 5th TD pass with a separated shoulder for Detroit's first win in two years and that fake clock rushing TD a month or so ago come to mind.

Last season we had a defense consisting of freshmen and backups. We got what we should have, a sloppy defense that couldn't perform consistently.
But, the defense should have improved over the season yet it didn't. Whether that is because the players aren't as good as expected, or the coaching isn't as good as it needs to be, we will maybe know next season. Or, maybe not.

Unfortunately, so does Detroit's collapse down the stretch that gave away a very winnable division. Gatahata9 has a good point here. Stafford is very gifted but he has too much Favre in him.
