It has long annoyed me that the wiki does not have a complete season results list for A&M football.

I know that the information can be found on the web in various places but with wiki essentially being the #1 online info resource it would be nice to get it all gathered there.

Right now I am working on the 1987 page. For the most part I am using a 1997 Texas A&M football media guide.

Unfortunately, while it does have many bits of data that are hard to come by (like every single game that was on TV since the Texas game in 1951) it is also missing things (attendances, ranking at time of games) that I would like to have to keep the page uniform and consistent with the other modern Aggie football wiki pages.

If any of y'all know of some good reference material that might have things such as rank at time of game and attendance I would really appreciate the link. I've been able to find some info by scouring the internet but would rather not have to find info I need by reading through a hand written box score PDF like I did for the LSU game.

Y'all don't need to aid me in my quest to build the missing Aggie football wiki pages (though that would rock) but any help would be great.

also, here is the link for what I have so far on the '87 team.

LINK

right now I am missing attendance for @Southern Miss, Houston, @Rice, and @TCU.

I'm sure I can't offer anything that you haven't already referenced; but good for you for taking on the task.

thanks

I think I may have found a site that will give me rankings at the time of the game so right now attendance is the bigger issue.

eventually I will need to find a good attendance reference.

I can't figure out where the text is that says I am using Coaches Poll rankings. I am using AP and would like the page to be correct in that aspect.

I also have noticed the 88 Cotton Bowl wiki page has some incorrect data as it shows us ranked #8 when the game was played even though we were #13.

Not sure where that came from b/c the info I have says we finished out at #9 in the coaches and #10 in the AP

I have a gigantic college football encyclopedia that I got a few years ago that for sure has the ranking at the time and I think has the attendance also. It was by USA Today I believe

well the page may not last long as a Wiki mod has tagged it for speedy deletion.

quote:

This article may meet Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion for the following reasons:

because in its current form it serves only to promote or publicise an entity, person, product, or idea, and would require a fundamental rewrite in order to become encyclopedic. However, the mere fact that a company, organization, or product is an article's subject does not, on its own, qualify that article for deletion under this criterion. Nor does this criterion apply where substantial encyclopedic content would remain after removing the promotional material; in this case please remove the promotional material yourself, or add the {{advert}} tag to alert others to do so. See CSD G11.
as an article about a real person, individual animal, organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content or organized event that does not credibly indicate the importance or significance of the subject. See CSD A7.

The page may be deleted under any criterion that is valid.

If this article does not meet the criteria for speedy deletion, or you intend to fix it, please remove this notice, but do not remove this notice from pages that you have created yourself. If you created this page, and you disagree with the given reason for deletion, you can click the button below and leave a message, explaining why you believe this article should not be deleted. You can also visit the talk page to check if you have received a response to your message.

I can't figure out how this page is any different that the hundreds of other individual season pages already up on Wiki

well here is what I've gotten from this mod so far

quote:

why did you nominate the 1987 Texas A&M football page for a deletion?

I am new at making pages and cannot for the life of me understand what I have done wrong with the page you just nominated for deletion. How is it any different than the hundreds of pages already set up for individual seasons for various college football teams? Kentatm (talk) 19:48, 12 January 2014

UTC) The page you created does not lie under Wikipedia guidelines and is not notable enough to write an article on that subject see WP:N also WP:ISNOT. Nechlison (talk) 19:50, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

right now I am asking why this page is not notable enough while there are hundreds of other individual season pages for many other CFB teams.

I'm wondering if I have run into a mod that hates sports.

I just did that in another response.
quote:

How is the 87 A&M football season not notable enough?

There are literally hundreds of individual season pages for various college football teams on Wiki. There are many about Texas A&M as well. You can see complete season pages for the years 1988-2014.

quote:

How in the world are the other seasons ok for individual pages when this one is not? Your citation is not consistent with other mods views on Wiki pages such as this at all.

Kentatm (talk) 19:56, 12 January 2014 (UTC) Your page has been written in advertisement sense. And there are thousands of seasons on each game that doesn't mean all are notable. What you are trying to do is that you are making it as special one. Its not so, as I already told you that if the subject is not notable then Wikipedia doesn't have an article about it. Nechlison (talk) 20:04, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

my most recent response.
quote:

Again, I ask you, how is this page any different than the many individual season pages already made for various college football teams? Have you even looked at other pages to see how it is exactly the same?

How is this an advertisement? Are those other pages I listed also advertisements?

What do you even mean by "And there are thousands of seasons on each game"? What? There is only one 1987 college football season.

Also, I find it interesting that you say I am trying to make that specific season special when it in fact is one of the most successful season in A&M history. They won the SWC, won a major bowl (Cotton) against a Notre Dame team that had the Heisman winner, and finished the season ranked in the top 10.

There are many team pages just like the one I have created that were for far less successful years. Again, how do those not violate the rules while this one does? Kentatm (talk) 20:17, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

I think I may have worn him down a bit

I've removed deletion tag from your page and passing to another editor to handle it. Nechlison (talk) 20:23, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

he's lucky.

if he hadn't somewhat relented I was going to bring this over to TexAgs and have the rabble go after him.

That mod seems to be a bit of a dick!

Although, this person may not be a native English speaker as there are some curious typos in their response to you and so he might not understand completely what you are trying to accomplish.

The Athletic Department should have this info on their website though and preferably for all sports. They should hire you Dr. RC!

well now I just have to hope I didn't piss the guy off enough for him to try to make a case for deletion to other mods.

It's kind of cool that Wiki will notify you when other people are discussion you on their talk pages.

I have also added players drafted that year to try to give the page a little more relevance.

I think I'll probably rewrite the season description since it was pretty much a cut and past job from the 1985 season page that I used as a template.

I'm sure you've already found it, but this is the only site I know for historic poll rankings: College Poll Archive.

You would have to match the date of the poll to the date of the game.

Wikipedia mods can be dicks. I've had articles and edits deleted within minutes, even in the middle of the night. Which is why I haven't bothered with it in some time, but good luck.

thank you

that is a very useful site.

I am also using https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/

I figure I'll probably need several references sources from here on out in case I run into mods that might get pissy about the 97 media guide as my main source.
