So, I just got my pistol permit and am ready to purchase a pistol. The gun will be used for personal protection but, I want something that is fun to shoot. My budget is $500-$700 and I want a 9mm or a .40cal.
Should I buy a nicer used gun?
What do y'all think?

I really like the Baby Eagle but there are many small frame pistols that are comfy to carry and fun to shoot.
There is nothing wrong with a used pistol in good shape. I reccomend finding a gun store or range that will let you shoot different models so you can find the one you like.

Try a Glock, Springfield XDm, and Smith & Wesson M&P. If you don't like any of those, look at a 1911.

Is composite the way to go?

Seems, the Glock is the most popular in my price range.

I prefer this over the Glock but the Glock is a good piece

It just depends, I have a polymer 9mm XDm. It's a perfect beginner gun and I still love it. I'm not too fond of 40's and 45's in polymer, they're kinda snappy.

I have a Glock 23 and I love it. Best gun for the money.

I'm finding Glocks 19s for $499 and 23s for $575 in Tuscaloosa. Do any of you have recommendations for online purchase?

Go to Woods N Water and you should be able to get a 23 for $500 or $550 at the most.

This is a real nice piece but you'd have to find a good used one

JGsales is a pretty decent place
I've bought from them. Usually can find a dealer to transfer it for you for around $15.
Other good sights:
Sportsman Warehouse
DSGarms
JG handles used firearms as well. Also check slickguns.
eta- for example.. this was found through slickguns...

Just went to Woods and Water. Looked at several but I think I will purchasing a compact size. They felt much better in my hand than the standard.
I liked the Springfield XD, Glock 23, Berretta, and the Walther!
Can't remember what models the last 2 were but they 9mm and .40 cal respectively.

All I can tell you is about the Walther. I have put hundreds upon hundreds of rounds through mine with absolutely no issues what so ever.

I
The Walther was a very nice gun. I, also, like that it's not as popular. Seems everyone has a Glock or an XD!
