What will our offense look like?

Will it be similar to what we've been running, or will Kiffin go a little more spread? I know they both want more of a hurry up approach, so what could we expect in terms of time between plays?

Would there be an equivalent that I could check out, just to get an idea?

An unstoppable force

But really, expect a lot of Howard lining up as a WR with Fowler moving around from FB to TE at the same time. All of a sudden you hurry to the line and you can be in the I with Howard in tight, or spread it out five wide and they can't substitute to stop the mauling.

I think it will look a lot like what we see from the Broncos and Pats in the NFL. Both teams use a no huddle pro spread. Understanding that those two teams have the best two QBs in the game to make the reads at the line, yet it will still be the same power run/ play action pass game we have seen with Saban since 07.

So much is going to depend on our QB being able to make the reads. A big arm will be good. But a smart QB will be mandatory to speed up the Saban offense.

It will still be the Earhardt Perkins system, so what we've always ran with some new wrinkles.

Earhardt

Yeah, that's the name I couldn't remember. Google the offense and there is a great read on the Pats running it. Will attach a link if I can find it again.

Eta: This link

*And this quote from the article is where the Bama defense is right now when facing the HUNH spread option.

quote:

This marriage of terminology and technique, of efficiency and elegance, is what makes the Patriots so mesmerizing. Like NFL offenses, in recent years NFL defenses have also become too wordy, relying on long-winded calls designating scheme and technique and impractical checks. With the speed at which New England operates, the message for defenses has become clear: fix your terminology or perish. For opposing offenses, the mandate is less direct but just as imperative. The Patriots have set the standard for modern offense, and if teams are going to keep up, they'll need to change not how they play, but how they talk.

A guy like Coker or Cornwell fits this perfectly, and I'm a Del Rio fan, but I do wonder about his arm. He may be smart, but is he smart enough to play over a guy who can sling it and make plays with his feet? And believe me, I'll be the first guy in line to tell you the QB position is more mental than anything, but still.

Del Rio is great but he is still just a "value added" walk-on in that he is certainly better than a EJ Moss or Thomas Darrah being a walk on QB for us.

I don't know, before Nuss was fired it felt like all signs pointed toward Del Rio having a leg up. If it works, no problem, but if we need to hit a big play down field I want a guy I can trust 9/10 times to at least put it there on time, not a guy I can trust 6/10 times. Now, if he has a big lead in terms of playbook and buying in and all that jazz, by all means play him.

I think that is more along the lines of the sadness of the other candidates. When a walk on is considered the best performing guy its a bad reflection on the scholarship guys like we Fran named Jonathan Richey the starter over Watts and Zow in Spring 2001 as motivation.

Wasn't there a post on BOL about Kiffin saying how much talent we have at QB?

SOmething about two QB's on the roster currently had better physical tools than AJ.

So Kiffin likes them so far?

Not necessarily he likes them or not, just they had stronger physical tools (better arm, better frame, better wheels) than AJ. But Morris is still likely to transfer simply because having Sims, Morris, Bateman, McLeod, and Cornwell is a little much, especially if you add a 6th in Coker and a 7th in Del Rio (he counts against the 85 the minute he takes a snap in his first two years). That is a lot of deadweight.

I really hope Sims is moved to a different position this off season.

And McLeod transfers.

He is probably not athletic enough at the moment for another position. He was always even as a recruit a tweener in that if he was going to play another position full time he would have to keep his weight down. Now that he has been a QB for 4 years his weight is to much for his frame to be an "athlete".

1) Mixed tempo
2) power run 2 TEs or HBs
3) isoloate match ups for receivers and TEs
* Hopefully we will practice at hunh pace
Think back to 08 with JP, but add mix tempo
