But Lane Kiffin is a very good hire for Alabama. His offenses at USC were jawdroppingly good, and Tennessee improved tremendously on offense. It's going to be tough to recruit against him too. My only concern would be how he works with the staff since he is largely unfamiliar with them. But overall, I think it's a solid hire. And you're welcome for another thread on Lane Kiffin.

And in 6 or 7 years he can be Saban's successor!

Last time (05) he was a standalone OC, USCw was easily one of the most prolific offenses in the history of college football

Bottom line is Saban really respects Lane and his eval and criticisms of Nuss when he came a few weeks ago is what prompted Saban to consider him for the job. He was the 1st name he called and only interview. It is a risky hire but the rewards could be massive. From all accounts his release from USCw pretty much humbled him and made him realize he has a specialty and possibly tried as a HC to do too much (this top year was a really great example). He crashed and burned as a HC there is no denying that but he is an offensive mastermind and a lightning rod recruiting wise (at a position where Bama had 2 non-factors with the last 2 OCs). I personally am excited to see the impact he has on our offense.

You nailed it. My only worry is that because he carries an almost celebrity status, the mesh with the coaching staff could be complicated...but I trust Saban's judgement completely.

My prediction is, outside of game day, we will see more of Layla than Lane in the media.

Sarkesian and 30 guys with first round talent (all of whom were paid for-- see vacated wins) can make a bad coach look good.

No it didn't. Aside from the 08 season, Tenn's offend was pretty prolific. Kiffin really didn't do anything to improve that.

Because he's a proven cheater. It's going to be tough to recruit against him, until you get slapped with sanctions because he pays players.

Legitimate concern, as it's probably difficult to get along with a spoiled brat.

Actually, I woke up on kind of a shitty mood... Then I remembered that Lane Kiffin works at Bama. And now I'm happy again.

I think any rational fan would say this is a big problem for LSU.

He will be a thorn in our sides.

Then what the hell are you and everybody else worried about then??? You can see the fear a mile away coming from all these anti-Bama posters. Hell, it's just a game!

I think obviously Saban saw something in Kiffin in his days at UT. That being said, it wasn't like it wasn't his offense at USC. He called the plays. And they were pretty mediocre for the most part.

Morally, I don't want him anywhere near my campus. Hopefully sanctions don't follow him to Bama.

My biggest concern about this hire is Lane's attitude. Has he really changed? The most self destructive thing about Lane is he has a "sense of entitlement." I have seen many people become humbled after being shite canned. I am in sales and I have known people who thought they would never be laid off or fired because they are so much better than everyone else. Getting shite canned can change your life, I have seen it.

There is little-to-no evidence that he is capable of causing problems for us in any arena except recruiting (kinda already an issue with Bama). Do I think Bama will fall apart because he's there? No.
But he has a long track record of leaving programs worse off than he found them.
Thus, it's not irrational to expect more of the same.

It's always been about Bama's defense, for me.

You may be right. He may have seen the light. But this isn't the first time he's been run out of California.

Guava you do realize what I posted above about the last time he was an OC only don't you?

He had 2 1k yd rushers, 3k yd passer, 1k yd WR in one of the most prolific and productive offenses in the history of college football

Yeah. And I addressed that here...
