History shows....A&M's QB play should be awful for 2 years

The thing I always noted in the "Cam vs. JFF vs. Tebow" debates.....
Lets see what the team looks like without them. This really goes to show how much they meant to their schools.
Following Cam?
Trotter and Khiel Frazier. No dobut thats a big drop off in QB talent....but the team just won a NC. And their offensive play was awful. Obviously things have picked up since Gus came back and Marshall took over. But its clear "there is no Cam running this offense"
Following Tebow?
Brantley (not counting Driskel years)
There was an expectation that Florida's offense would be different but still as effective. Brantley was going to throw for a bunch of yards in that offense. They still had some play makers coming back.....instead it was two brutal years for the Gators offense. There was no following Tebow's throne.
Kenny Hill/Kyle Allen?
Both are viewed as big time prospects. But you could make the case Brantley/Frazier were viewed as big time prospects also. But lets assume they're good...
If Kenny Hill puts up similar numbers/wins......doesnt that sort of take away from "JFF's mystique" sure no one has ever been the playmaker JFF is....but If Kenny HIll throws for 3800 yards/rushes for 650 yards 40 total tds...
Doesnt that mean Sumlin truly has a system that helps QBs put up big yards?
If A&M's QBs/team struggles....I think that adds to JFF's legacy. He truly was all they had. Just like no Cam exposed Chizik. And no Tebow caused Urban to have health problems.
So for all the JFF > Tebow/Cam. I think we should wait to see how A&M does now that he's gone...before anyone can come to that conclusion.

short version.
Cam and Tebow's teams were awful after they left...especially QB play. So if A&M's new QB puts up similar numbers to JFF...then its hard to view JFF as great as Cam...cause its more a system thing. If A&M's Qb struggles...then a person can say JFF is better than Cam/Tebow.

Like from Murray to Richardson...or Richardson to Pullig...or McGee to Johnson...or Johnson to Tannehill...or Tannehill to Manziel..

A&M struggles more with our QBs hitting sophomore slumps.
Reggie McNeal... 2002
Reggie McNeal 2003 & 2005 (2004 wasn't bad)
McGee: 2006 not bad
McGee: 2007 & 2008 Arkansas State. frick me
Jerrod Johnson: 2009 looks promising
Jerrod Johnson: 2010 stop throwing INTS. EVERY GAME
Tannehill: 2010 we wanted him all along. /texags stopped blowing leads at least.
Tannehill: 2011 please score a touchdown in the third quarter so we can stop blowing leads.

Tanny sucked arse. but regardless the swamp kitty point is a moot one, or wishful thinking at best.

I don't see it that way; not sure why you do.
It's possible to have a QB-centric system, AND have talented QBs. The two aren't mutually exclusive.
But I'm well aware that the talking points around here will continue to be, "No JFF; A&M will suck." I get that and understand why some feel that way.
I agree with your final statement: We should wait and see.

Has more starting jobs than any tU QB.

Fair points.
For all I know, Kenny Hill could be the Colt McCoy to JFF's Vince Young

Do you really think Sumlin is gonna have a shitty QB?
Do you?
Do you?

I don't think he's saying that.
On paper, Hill and Allen are better than was Manziel.
Unfortunately, our issue(s) will continue to involve the defensive side of the ball.

Which is fine and is probably the case.
History is actually on our side. Not only does Sumlin keep cranking out these "once-in-a-lifetime" QBs, but A&M by itself keeps producing first round QB talent.
The secret is an emphasis on offense and 7 on 7 at the high school level in the southwest.

Ags should feel comforted by the fact that they have a stout defense, however.
