Lane Kiffin has a career record of 35-21 as coach of Tennessee and USC. (USATSI)Former Southern California head coach Lane Kiffin is interviewing for the Alabama offensive coordinator job as early as Thursday, according to a source.

Kiffin will visit Tuscaloosa for the interview but won't be alone in the running for the job. A long list of NFL suitors should be involved for a coveted job to replace Doug Nussmeier, who is now Michigan's offensive coordinator.

The 38-year-old Kiffin, who went a combined 35-21 as coach of Tennessee and USC, visited Alabama during bowl prep as a consultant/observer.

Kiffin runs a pro-style offense, which fits with Saban's style of ball control and a physical running game. But Saban has said recently that he's open to upping the tempo to adapt to attack defenses.

Alabama would be a stable landing strip for the embattled Kiffin, who has already held three major head-coaching jobs. One of Kiffin's former employers, Tennessee, plays host to the Crimson Tide on Oct. 25.

The Trojans scored 50 points a school-record 7 times. USC became the first school to have a 3,000-yard passer, a pair of 1,000-yard runners and a 1,000-yard receiver in a season.

Let me also say that I don't think we hire Lane Kiffin. I'm just enjoying the ride.

Just remember, you heard all this here first:

Lane Kiffin to Alabama as OC

James Franklin to Penn St. as HC

Kirby Smart to Vanderbilt as HC

Monty Kiffin to Alabama as DC

I'm curious to know the Bama board opinion of this. I've seen some of the opinions from the SECr crowd. I personally, would not want anything to do with Kiffin. Yea, he's a great recruiter but y'all are already killing it. I just felt that his offenses have been inept, especially at Southern Cal. I know y'all can do better than Kiffin and would probably do good to avoid the stink that he brings.

I dont think it really matters who our OC is to be honest. We're going to run the same stuff, and we are absolutely stacked.

I like that he is a big step up recruiting wise from Nuss.

DO. NOT. WANT.

He is terrible now. Did you watch his Cowboy's defense this year? Second worse defense in the history of the NFL. No thanks.

I don't think its quite fair to toss his whole career under the bus for his USC failures.
He had a lot going on and he lost control of the program, apparently, while at usc, as a Head Coach.

Bama wants him as an OC and will probably get the most out of him possible, as Bama has a huge complex of 'football analysts' and a pre-defined social and athletic system in place.

Some of his USC offenses were truly special while under Pete Carroll, and he did a good job at Tennessee at first glance.

I'd say it is a great hire if it can happen. The timing of Kiffin's 'visit' and the Nuss lateral to Michigan makes me think that Nuss wanted out. Just my opinion.

So long as there is a five star that signs with any other school, there is work to be done.
